If you find out, let me know! I bite mine too. My hands never go near my mouth at the hospital, since I know where my hands have been, and dont want to think about what might be under my nails...but on my days off, i bite them all!

I found that my habit was related to an oral fixation, if I wasn't biting my nails, I would be chewing on some piece of plastic or something.

Then I got my tongue pierced and instantly quit biting my nails.

This has recently been reinforced by getting braces, now I am afraid of popping off a bracket so I really don't bite them any more.

    good luck

i know mine is an oral fixation. i blame it all on my mother for taking my pacifier away too early in my lifetime . getting braces is out of the question...because i really don't need them. i don't think i want to get my tongue pierced either...so now what?

i used to pick at mine but since i got the acrylic nails i don't. they are aLWAYS SMOOTH so no little rough spots to annoy me and make me want to bite them.

My hands always looked terrible, nails bitten, cuticles cracked. A read breeding ground for infection. So I had acrylic nails put on two years ago.

No more biting my nails, my cuticles are healed and my hands look great.

I know there is lots of controversy R/T artificial nails and infection. I keep mine cut short and am conscious of hand washing. My hands really are a much less danger to others and to myself than they were before.

ex-nail biter here! i am proud to say!

i have tried everything to stop! there were 2 things that caused me to stop cold turkey. they were: manicures (on a weekly basis) and tmj migraines (biting nails would lead to a killer migraine!). i have been biting-free for about 4 months now. i am even more broke, and my migraines have been reduced to about 1 per week.

wishing all of you the best of luck in conquering this horrible habit!

Get some Sally Hansen nail biter stuff. I never noticed when I bit my nails, it was just an unconscious habit, but I actually started to gag when I put that stuff on and bit my nails. It is sooooo disgusting!

I bit my nails for years. Then I discovered the 'Nail Salons.' I know Nurses are not suppose to wear them, but since I am a supervisor
I feel fairly safe in doing so. They look nice at all times, and I have no desire to bite them!
