My sister needs help!

  1. Okay, I have a really serious problem and I don't know who to ask for help. My sister is bulimic and she is loosing weight. She started at around 142 (she's 5'8) and then it dropped to 130 and now she's 126. I am really worried for her and she says she knows all the risks already and won't stop. I have offered my support but that doesn't seem to be helping her. She does it around 4-5 times a day and I'm really worried. What should I do?

How old is your sister? If she's underage maybe your parents can help.

Best wishes. I don't really have any advice.

Were twins. (19 yrs old) My parents aren't very supportive so I doubt they could offer any help. Thank you for your best wishes, they are much appreciated.:-)

This must be pretty scary for you, Keely, and I'm sorry you're having to watch your sister do this to herself. Yes, 126# at 5'8 is really pushing it. If getting professional help in not an option she will consider, perhaps you could do a Google search and see if there are any links to information which might be helpful in getting her back on track.

Sure do wish her the best ! And you as well, for I'm sure it's very difficult for you, and you obviously care. Don't give up on her ! And keep checking back here... someone out here just may have more input for you.

I have personal experience w/eating disorders...bulimia, compulvsive overeating and anorexia in my young 20s. GET HER HELP if at all possible. It goes WAY beyond the physical damage....the psyche needs addressing. I hope she will accept help. All you can do it try HARD to help her see she is ILL and will likely DIE if this gets out of hand. It's really up to her. I hear your fear and frustration in your post and I feel for you. Gosh do I.

Information can be found at the following links:

Just a couple of sites I think might help you with resources, chat rooms and ideas on how to help. I know you must feel helpless. I am so sorry for what you are going through. Hang in there and I hope this helps just a bit.

I don't have any experience in that area, just wanted to say how lucky she is to have such a great sister who is concerned and will stick by her. Hope your sister gets the help she needs, keep us posted.
