My puppy Zoey died today

  1. My 10 month old Italian Greyhound puppy died today, she was hit by a car. She had a habit of trying to get away so we got her a harness and and heavy-duty leash. Well while my fiance was walking her today she stood up on her hind legs and somehow managed to wriggle her skinny legs out of the harness. She got away and got hit. I am absolutely devastated. She definitely had a wild streak and could be difficult to train, but she brought such joy to our lives. She was the first dog that my fiance and I got together. I felt like I was going to throw up as we buried her in the park behind our apartment complex. I loved her so much and I can't believe that she's actually gone.

I am so, so sorry to hear about your loss. I am VERY attached to my two dogs, they are like children to me, so I can understand your love for your puppy.

So sorry. I hope you feel better soon...

Emerald- That is the worst feeling in the world. I have not ever had a puppy die, but my older dogs have. They become a part of your family. Just like a baby. They wiggle their ways into your life. I am soooo sorry that this has happened. Once you begin to heal you might go to your local shelter to buy a memorial. Ours has large stones and they engrave your pets name on it. They are expensive, but it is a wonderful memory, you can even put a picture of them in it. ((((((((hugs)))))))) to you. May the healing start soon, but always keep her memory.

Someone posted this poem for me when I lost my beagle, Barney, just 3 months ago. My heart is still heavy at his loss, but this poem really moved my heart. Hope you enjoy it!

Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food and water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they miss someone very special to them; who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. The bright eyes are intent; the eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to break away from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. YOU have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together

I'm terribly sorry. Pets do become a member of our families and it is hard to say goodbye. I lost my Boston Terrier to an accident last summer while we were on vacation. I was devastated. It took a while to accept it and it took longer to not feel guilty and to not want to place blame for it. It is such a difficult thing to go through. You have my deepest sympathy.

I wanted to share this Rainbow Bridge link/ I've always found this site very comforting. http://www.indigo.org/rainbowbridge_ver2.html

Emerald........I am so very sorry for your loss........I don't have dogs, but I've had cats all my life and they are not "like" family, they ARE family. I'm absolutely brokenhearted over this, and feel your pain deeply.....don't know what to say that could possibly comfort you, except that you'll be in my thoughts tonight.

    God bless.

    Dear EmeraldNYL,

I feel for your huge loss. I know how so very quickly puppies can latch onto our hearts and how devastating the pain of losing them so soon can be. You have my deepest sympathies. You will be crying your eyes out no doubt for the next several days and weeks. There's nothing to say that will take away that pain, but just know in your heart that in the short time your pup was with you, she was enveloped in love and adored by you and your husband. I'm really sorry for you both. My thoughts are with you. Stephanie
