My computer died

  1. I am hoping that someone can give me some advice, My hubby decided to change my modem connection in my Dell Lap top now the computer won't even turn on, it is dead, the light comes on then blinks and shuts off. Has anyone ever experienced this? I misss my puter, I am typing on his big ol giant machine, walaaaaaaaaaaa, I want my puter back.

Of course hubby claims he did nothing wrong, and he is good with computers but it was working perfectly then he decided to change the connection which didn't need changed and now I am planning the puter funeral

DH says it sounds like the power supply went out and possibly fried a couple of capacitors on the mother board. The modem may have just been coincidental. If you still think it might be the modem, unplug it and see if the computer will turn on. (my sympathies, we just went thru the above with our second computer, the one the kids and I use -- yes, dh has his own!!) good luck! I'll be interested to hear what happens.

Mine does that when the power supply is interrupted because the internal battery is KAPUT. I would look at your power source - not the first ime I have curse a computer onely to find someone had knocked the power cord out.

Hopefully you can call the Dell support line. And. . . hopefully they'll get to you within a reasonable amount of time. Support services can be so crappy sometimes.

A downed computer. . . my worst nightmare!

    Good luck!

I'm about to give mine The Last Rites--if my re-fi goes thru, I'm getting a NEW one. I looked the other day, and really like the Sony Viao---any feedback?

    Thanks

My sis has a desktop and laptop Viaos and just loves them.

For the past 6 years or so I've upgraded mine....it's a bench built just for me. I still have the original case and power supply. But over time Ive upgraded just about everything else. What else is nice is I have support from the man who built it. I have top of the line everything.

Ive never had a laptop other than the cruddy Toshibas we had at work when we went paperless. They were less than worthless. Soured me on the concept.

I agree with Ted to call Dell.

Gateway is really helpful when I have a problem, they offer online help also.

Hope you get it fixed soon.

I called Dell, what a waste of time one and a half hours of being put on hold only to be cut off, and one of the people was rude, so for me I will never buy another Dell. When this happened the computer was turned off, still plugged in but not turned on, so the mystery continues. If I ever figure this out I will share so others will learn from my mistake, it looks like a funeral for this dell.

    Check this site. http://www.annoyances.org/

It's a searchable forum. I wonder if you have an irq conflict?

Call around and see if there is a local tech who is willing to look at yours. Dell is VERY proprietary ( their parts are usually only obtainable from them.) Techs have their own ways of bypassing that.

Husband & the boy child have got kick-ark desktop systems they have built together...while I plod along on my good OLD (bought it new, state of the art) IBM 380XD...manufactured (and purchased in May 1998. Coolest thing is the it has an internal floppy & cd...worst thing is it weighs 14 pounds. My next one will be an IBM also.
