Must see film

  1. If anyone out there hasn't seen the movie Something the Lord is a must see! It's an HBO film so it was never in theaters, but it is one of the best films I've ever seen. It is about the first heart surgery and took place at Johns Hopkins and the two men that worked together to make it happen. I don't want to give too much away for those who haven't seen it, but let me just say that it is very uplifting and inspiring--not to mention it is a wonderful true story. It only plays on HBO so if you have HBO watch for it.

Just wanted to recommend it. Anyone out there who has seen it?

I saw it and thought it was v. good (although in that overly inspiring, "After School Special" kind of way :chuckle ). I recalled from nursing school that the first heart surgery ever done was to correct "blue baby" syndrome, but I didn't know any of the details covered in the movie. I thought everyone in the cast was v. good and all the characters were v. well portrayed (as believable human beings).

Would certainly recommend it to everyone else --

I actually watched it this past weekend and being a OR nurse thought the OR scenes were interesting. I thought it was very good and had some good acting. Alan Rickman has always been one of my favorite character actors ever since "Die Hard". It was a shame the character Vivian Thomas had so long to wait for any recognition of his accomplishments. The "South" was a very hard place to live in back in those days. Good movie though.
