Much sorrow

  1. In 1991, my best furry friend was born under my house. AS he and his litter mates grew, they would allow us to pet them but then they would scamper back under the house to their mama.
We debated over names for the litter ...the ginger who meowed all the time became Mr. Mouth, the calico became Speckle, the silky black girl became Tarz-Anne. yet we were searching for a name for the last cat. He had a very pale beige color to him and big green eyes...considered Beach boy (blonde haired surfer type),but the name did not suit him. One afternoon, I picked him up after he had been under my car and had an oil streak on his back.. I said "you smell like my mechanic!!!" Thus he was named for my mechanic, Billy Webb. He came of age and ran off to find female companionship...was missing for a week, but he came home all beaten up,half starved...the next day, I took the entire litter to be neutered/spayed!!!! Billy loved to lie on my feet in the winters...he became well know amongst family and friends for not only his gargantuan size, but for his resounding " MOWW ".
This past weekend he, Mr. Mouth, Speckle and Tarz-Anne were missing...highly unusual for them NOT to be awaiting my arrival home from work, all nagging me about their breakfast ...
My husband related to me that he had had to chase a pack of dogs from our yard at 0330...I began searching all areas of the yard...even venturing into the woods behind the house, calling their names...yesterday morning, Mr. Mouth, Speckle and Tarz-Anne returned home...
Such a bad morning anyway...had worked Monday night and had to report Tuesday morning for jury duty. As I drove to town, in some very tall grass I spied the familiar color of fur, its massive size was also a clue. Oh my,.... my Billy Webb was dead. I told him I would be back to bury him and went to the courthouse, very shaken... during the first break I came home only to find his body was gone... Hubby called the city animal control officer who said he had just picked him up and had buried him next to the railroad tracks below my house...we walked along the tracks, looking for freshly turned soil, yet were unable to find anything that even resembled the ground being distrubed...
Had to go back to court, was not chosen as a juror, came home and have sobbed all night. No closure. But the memories of my best furry friend are flooding my mind.
Billy Webb NEVER went toward the road...he was a homebody. I feel he was run into the road by that pack of dogs...
He was my best friend with fur...my life was greatly enhanced by his life. He never cared if my legs were shaved, my hair was combed,or if the house was clean. He never repeated anything I had told him and he was a very good listener. The presence of him on my lap, the texture of his fur on my hands while he was being rubbed and petted were so comforting to me...one could look at his regal face and know that no one ever told him cats were not worshipped in this day and time.
My other cats have come to me and I have grieved with them because they know he is never coming back home.
Billy Webb will be missed for the rest of my days in this life.

I'm so sorry that your beloved pet has left you. Billy sounds like quite the character. I am not a cat person myself but I fell in love with a Tom who sounds like Billy in a different color coat. Billy reminds me of Oliver, they like to act high and mighty but they are really only alive when their people are content to worship them. Billy lived to engage you, we should all do so well in our life's work.

I feel for your loss, suzannasue. My cats are like family to me, in a way...have been there with me through thick and thin, and seem to love me no matter what I do. Not looking forward to the day when they must leave, but I've given them a happy life, when so few animals every know kindness. Both they and I have been blessed, I think.

No other cat will take Billy's special place in your heart, but others will come along and help ease the pain for you, and make you smile again. (((hugs))) to you, take care of yourself.

I'm sorry, Suzanna, about Billy Webb. Sounds like he was your best buddy. I'm really sorry that you had to find him, the way that you did, and had to go on to the courthouse.
That Animal Control officer needs to have a knot yanked in his tail for lying to you!

Oh, ((((Suzanna)))) I also feel your pain for the loss of your Billy Webb. I can't tell you how many cats I've lost and it certainly doesn't get any easier. God will give you the strength and courage to see you through this. Billy may be missed, but all of the fond memories remain. Peace to you.

I am so sorry for your loss. I am supposed to be a big strong man, but many's the time I have cried over the loss of one of our furry companions. My little dachsund had back problems last year and we had to pay 1200 bucks for sugery for him. He is doing great now. We didn't really have the money to spare, but we felt if things were the other way around, he would do it for us. He has repaid me a thousand times since then, just being here for me when I need him.

    So sorry,

    Pappy
