Most Unusual Side Job - page 4
Hi, all. A recent response to a post I wrote suggesting finding a per diem job for skills maintenance/acquisition. While it was a valid point, one of my inner responses was "Hell, no! Any more work... Read More
Feb 26When my kids were in high school our family ran a bean bag game at the Renaissance Fair sic weekends and Memorial day every year.
It was fun, but tiring.
We built the booth, made the bean bag board and bean bags, and bought "silver" and "gold" goblets as prizes at thrift shops. (Some really were silver)
Thirty years later I get a rush of adrenaline if I see nice goblets at a thrift shop.
Here was my daughter working the booth:
Feb 27Keyboardist & choir director for my church. It's a position that I've held for 33+ years. In the past, about 20 years ago, I was a keyboardist for a southern rock band. Unfortunately, working weekends and working nights required that I end this non-nursing part-time gig. More currently, I've been asked to video-record special events and interests. I even got paid to do some of these events. I'm slowly working to expand this service.
For a nice length of time, I was heavily involved with our Too Live Nurse business, which produced CDs and live shows. Our troupe produced music-comedy for healthcare professionals, and we all were financially compensated for our time and talent. However, I don't know if this counts because it is related to nursing, though indirectly. Anyway, here's a really old photo of me during the early days of Too Live Nurse (TLN). It was taken around 1994/1995 at a nursing convention where the original TLN troupe performed its musical-comedy.

The dogs need to run anyway and it is a wonderful hobby so it is win/win.
Feb 27Quote from bushambothis sounds very Alaskan. As well as being a remote area nurse I am a diesel mechanic and run the powerhouse here where I live.
Feb 28Keyboard player and backing vocalist for various club bands working the North-East Social Club Circuit.
Started out to help out a mate one night - turned into about four years of occasional gigging.
Highlight: A Tom Jones Tribute band called: "Dave King is Tom Jones".
An evening of Sir Tom's Greatest Hits, performed by the former lead singer of heavy metal band, "Battleaxe".
And very good he was, too. He still does the Tom Jones tribute act, now titled "Is This... Tom Jones?"
This is him (with a proper professional keyboard player, though - that's not me!) : Is This Tom Jones | Free Listening on SoundCloud
Mar 1I submitted an article to a newspaper and that began a freelance op-ed writing gig. I still think about going back to writing. It is very rewarding (not in $ & cents).
Mar 4I worked in a garden nursery: "nursing" plants. Planted, watered, transported and worked in the retail side. I tried to learn how to use the tractor/loader to load bulk soil and bark, but failed miserably.
Mar 6Drove limousines some time ago. Uniform and all. Met quite a few celebrities. Mostly nice and pleasant. A few were appalling. Notably, Bethany Frankel, a housewife of new York show. Didn't know who she was which didn't go down too well. She did some pretty horrendous things. Harrison Ford, very nice person. Ludicris, a rapper, not very bright. Numerous others. Very strange people mostly. Robin Williams, incredibly hyper. They mostly tip very well.
Apr 4Quote from OldDudeDavey, maybe would should go in "together" and try the Gigolo gig. It may take a little while to gin up a client base so we may have to run the business by hand until then.
Oh you guys!!!
May 5I do some farming on the side. I raise pigs and chickens for direct sale to people, grow some cash crops, and raise dairy replacement heifers.
By far the most lucrative side job I'm aware of are the several young nurses I know who do nude cam shows and/or sell their home made videos. I personally know two who do this and they tell me that lots of the other women they know doing are nurses or nursing students.
