More Iraqi explosions

  1. Here we are about one month before their elections and this type of thing is still happening. I don't understand how people think we will be able to leave Iraq any time soon.

NAJAF, IRAQ - Car bombs exploded in the Iraqi cities of Najaf and Karbala Sunday, killing at least 62 people and wounding more than 120.

The bomb in Najaf detonated in central Maidan Square where a large crowd had gathered to watch a funeral procession for a tribal sheik.

A hospital official said 48 people were killed and 90 wounded.

The city's police chief and the provincial governor, who were standing about 100 metres from the site of the explosion, escaped unhurt.

Less than an hour earlier, a suicide bomber blew up his vehicle at the entrance to a crowded bus station in downtown Karbala, 80 kilometres south of Baghdad.

The blast ripped through about 10 minibuses, killing at least 14 people and wounding as many as 39 others.

In central Baghdad, dozens of gunman dragged three Iraqi election workers from a car and shot them to death.

The victims were attacked as they drove along Haifa Street through a Sunni Muslim neighborhood, an area dubbed the "no-go" zone for U.S. troops.

An Associated Press photograph showed at least one person was shot after being forced to kneel.

Insurgents have vowed to sabotage Iraq's national elections scheduled for Jan. 30.

On the first day of campaigning Dec. 15, seven people died in a bombing near Karbala's Imam Hussein mosque.

I wish we could find the bombs before the Terrorists use them.
