Our Homecoming was this weekend too. I stayed home from the game due to not feeling well. DH went. Our daughter and all her friends spent the afternoon working on their float - it was a 4th of July theme - dd thought of using a rocket ("like on a Bugs Bunny cartoon mom") and tying an effigy of the other team on the rocket to send into outer space. They got a mannequin dressed up in the other teams colors from the theatre prop room.

Our football team won. The dance lasted about an hour after the game - dd said it was lame. She was home by midnight - I was on the couch (no honey I wasn't waiting up for you

Fortunately my daughter does not have a boyfriend - she runs around with a group of girls and guys and they don't seem to be paired off. I love that.

Thanks for the photos . . . . gotta love digital cameras.

Nice pictures. Your DD is darling ! Homecoming must be an American thing. I've always been envious of certain terms. The pinnacle of coolness, some of them are ! :chuckle

Stevielynn, I hope you are feeling better. This school doesn't have a homecoming parade! We did at my high school...and I JUST got asked to head up the alumni float for it. LOL I had done this previously a couple of times. We don't do "floats" really, just decorated cars, etc.

Thanks z's playa! Homecoming is such a big thing here...at least around where I live. My dd's boyfriend's mom said when she was growing up in the north USA states somewhere, they didn't do the mums and garters.

Now, I just have to find out WHY they don't have a parade! (New school...needs help!! LOL)

The homecoming floats just drive around the football field on the track. Then the Queen and King are crowned, along with their court. That's about it.

I chaperoned the Homecoming Dance last year . . . :uhoh21: my daughter hated it but for the love of God, they were almost having sex out there on the dance floor. One of the teachers went around with an empty water bottle and bopped kids on the head who were dancing too close or suggestively.

I wish we did not have dances . .. .some kind of fun night instead. Teenagers dancing in a darkened room - oh yeah, that sounds wholesome.

Thanks Tweety. She really had a great first homecoming. She was asked last year, but we wouldn't let our 8th grader go to homecoming....at least not with the guy who asked her! :roll

Stevielynn: In the highschool I went to, we used to have an actual parade. (They still do this.) It is about 2 miles I guess, the band plays, people give out candy, etc. People line the streets with lawn chairs, blankets, & some stand along the streets, etc. It is a big to do. You'd think it was the 4th of July! All three high schools in my hometown do this. I never knew it wasn't a common thing.

As for dances...I don't think they should do away with them. I think children need to be taught how to act, not just take things away. If there are adequate chaperones, then things shouldn't get out of control. I do share your concerns though. I'd definitely not want them to occur w/o supervision.

:chuckle I just hate chaperoning them! It is literally hard work keeping them from having sex out there.

A parade through town sounds cool - lots of support from the community then.

Stevielynn: At one of the Freshman games, my dd & I walked past one of her friends from school. He yelled out, "Hey *******! Your mom looks just like you!"
