Moonlighting?

  1. I can't believe I'm doing this, but............well, my first love has always been writing, and our area newspaper is looking for freelancers to write short feature stories for a weekly section in the Sunday paper. So I'm going for it---I wrote a cover letter, fished out copies of several different pieces I've done in the past, and I'm sending it out tomorrow.

Now, don't worry: it's like I told my boss this morning, I'm not quitting my "day job"---not yet, anyway---but I have ALWAYS dreamed of a career in writing, and maybe this is my chance to work toward that dream. Yes, I enjoy nursing too, but to be brutally honest I'd give it up in a heartbeat if I could make a living as a writer.

What surprises me is how easy the decision to try for this job was........for once, I didn't second-guess myself, pooh-pooh the idea after I'd thought about it for a while, or tell myself I don't have time to do it. Someday I want to get OUT of the rat race and work either part-time, or work from home.........perhaps this is my opportunity to begin the journey toward that goal. Perhaps not. But I'll never know if I don't try..........so please, wish me luck! Thanks!!

Anything you're able to contribute will be their gain. It's nice not to second-guess yourself to death, huh?

Good for you! I have always wanted to write, too...but these jobs are few and far between. I applied for a writing position last year with a company who publishes educational pamphlets, but never heard back from them. I hope this works out for you.

    Thanks to all.

I figure that it's nothing ventured, nothing gained..........and I'm too old to waste any more time in regrets for roads not taken. Time to get on with the second half of life, and do what I want to do!
