moms/dads - hosp/home/BC birth?

  1. I have come across several of your posts where childbirth was mentioned. So I am curious, where did ya have that bebe?

    Me -
#1 - Great! Hospital Birth Center w/ a CNM - wanted that nicu down the hall :uhoh21:

#2 - A little wonky - Home w/ PM - good thing though - he was born during Tropical Storm Allison. Houston was underwater

#3 - Amazing! - Home w/ PM - born in the water. DH caught him after my midwife jumped in to make "a little more room" he was posterior

    So, where and with who?

Kid #1 In a birth room at the Seattle hospital.
I delivered her with midwife at my side coaching. It was nice having the OR down the hall just in case.
Kid #2 Hospital with MD doing the delivery. Dads are lucky to even be there and good luck even getting a midwife to deliver in the hospital.
    Kid #3 We adopted him.

ALL were in the hospital -- had my mom there for baby#1 -- I was adopted and mom had never had a baby or seen a baby born... to this day she tears up when she talks about that "gift". She says it made her even more greatful and proud of my birth mom. Hubby was there for all too.

Friend had her 3rd at home and asked me to be there-- her midwife was not gong to be able to get there for a few hours and they wanted "back up" just in case ... I agreed, but told them that "back up" from me would mean driving her to the hospital if sontractions were too fast and furious -- I think I COULD do a home delivery in an emergant situation, but would sure want it to be a "perfect" baby and a very uneventful delivery!! My 2nd son would have died had we elected to have him at home -- pregnancy was fine -- no reason to suspect difficulties -- sure was glad to have Doc there to save my little man for me!!!

BTW-- midwife got there in plenty of time -- baby was beautiful and fine...everything went perfectly and was wonderful.

I had wanted to do an under water birth. But, after 8 miscarriages the doctor put a nix on that. Both were in the hospital, at 35 weeks, and 24 weeks.

Two deliveries - three babies ... yep! Twins. Both deliveries C/S!

With the first in 1978, had STAT C/S with preemie twins. Had to have general anesthetic and husband was in the delivery room. A FIRST for our hospital and I think it is still a rarity for moms having general anesthetic. It really helped me with the "bonding" aspect since husband was able to describe how babies looked at delivery and what measures were taken before they went to NICU.

With the second had much different experience with husband in delivery room and me awake and aware! Got to have private transition with Leboyer Bath, breastfed in recovery room (unheard of back then) and rooming in (also unheard of for C?S Mamas).
