Missing children and adults...

  1. Every once in awhile I check out the websites for missing children and adults....don't know why. Maybe I think someday I will recognize someone and be able to help them. Any way, I got to wondering what happens to all these missing children and adults. It is just like the vanish into thin air. Some of the stories are really strange and some are just plain sad. In some cases you just have no idea what could have happened to that person. Some of the websites have updates on cases....a few turn out well but a lot of them end in tragedy. I just can't imagine the families waiting days, months, years to find out what happened to their loved ones. Of course there are they high profile cases like Elizabeth Smart but their are so many others who haven't had nearly the publicity who also missing. Here in Indiana there are several high profile cases of missing women who have yet to be found. Just sad how people just vanish without a trace.

I agree with you. I often wonder what happens to them also. My heart aches for the loved ones. I always see those pictures on the board at Wal-Mart of missing children. I just can't even imagine.

That is so sad. Here in MN there were just 3 college men who disappeared not too far apart from each other last year. One of them disappeared on Halloween night and they just pulled his body out of the river still with his Halloween costume on. How sad... he was only 21 and was supposed to graduate college this spring.

Is he one of the ones that the families were concerned about the disappearances being related? Wasn't there a female student who also disappeared in that time frame?

Yeah- the families thought the disappearances were possibly related; I don't think that has been ruled out. There was a female who disappeared also around that time, but they don't think that was related to the young men's disappearances. The police have a suspect in the young woman's disappearance and they think she was murdered, but don't have a body so they had to drop the charges on their suspect.

When I was a child, a very close adult family member just "disappeared off the face of the earth" one day afterleaving work. It put our whole lives into somewhat of a limbo state until he was found about a month later - still alive, too. I can't imagine how devastating it is for those whose loved ones are never heard from again -- or whose bones are identified months or years later.

Saw that on the local news here. We had two go missing and haven't been found. They have to cross a river to get from bars to campus, so they figure they drown.

Happens a lot in LaCrosse, too. I don't know what it is with drunk people and rivers. I sure as heck wouldn't go near the mighty Mississippi if I were tipsy.....

    Becky,
Did you see/hear the snipit on the news about Jill Berman's (from IU) remains being found? I caught a second of it, but can't find anything from today online about it. Maybe it just happened?
