Dang - missed that - and I'll bet they all wanted world peace during their interview section .

Dumb question - is it a "scholarship pageant" like Miss America. At least I always felt like someone was getting the opportunity to go to school with that one.

I don't know what they earned for being crowned "Mistress of the Universe," I was too busy trying to figure out how I can continue to eat McDonalds and Taco Bell and look like THAT!

As a man, I've NEVER watched a beauty pageant. What a waste of three hours! If I want to see women in bathing suits (or less), I can find that for free on the net (and plenty of TV shows) - and I don't have to hear them try to convince me that they're intelligent.

Sometimes I don't get it - you're in a contest for your looks, but you want people to think you're not a shallow person. Oy vey!

I caught a little bit of it and my husband and I both thought that all the women looked a lot a like. Like their body types, structures, etc. were all very similar. Although, it was a little fun to watch Ms. Canada trip.

I used to work with a gentlemen whose wife represented the United States in the Miss Universe Pageant back in '99 or '00. Once I got past the huge jealousy I had from her being insanely gorgeous I realized that she really was a nice person. She had a very bad child-hood, grew up poor/underpriviledged and yet she grew up to become an amazing and strong woman.

Yeah, I know that "beautiful people" don't have the same types of problems that us regular people have and I do think that life is "easier" for them but it was interesting to meet someone like that who wasn't just pretty but really had a lot of brains, strength and had made something of themselves despite a lot of problems.

I still say it's a beauty pageant. How can you not call it that when they actually grade you on what you look like?

I feel like these things send our young people (especially our daughters) the wrong messages so I don't watch them and neither do my kids...esp my daughter. Too shallow for me.

I'm telling you, they all looked alike...I can't even remember?!? I think Miss Venezuala was the first runner-up, the winner...Miss South Africa maybe?

Someone told me today the name of the country two words, can't think of it now.

The winner was Dominican Republic. You're right mkue, 2 words, LOL! That's what jarred my memory.
