minutes to live

  1. They say that new alert system they have in Calif. saved those two teenage girl's lives. That guy was getting ready to kill them and bury them. My county just enacted the system. Maybe everyone should start clamoring for their state and local officials to start it. I think it is named after little girl who got murdered. Can't recall.

Amber Alert. I wish we had it. I agree every state should. As soon as a kid is reported missing it is announced on TV and Radio and on Highway signs with a description of the child and the car/slimebucket scumbag who took the poor kid. It has saved a whole bunch of kids including those 2 girls yesterday. Glad they are safe and glad the career criminal who harmed them is dead. I hope that gives these kids some peace of mind knowing he can't hurt them again!

I am all for that Amber Alert.. The State of NJ does not have it. I was actually thinking about writing my congressman about it!

I am very happy those young girls are alive and with their families!

It truly saved their lives. I do wonder why they were out at 1:30 am at 16 and 17 years old during the middle of the week?
    Thank God they are safe!!

Ohhhhhh, that story just sends chills up my spine. I understand that when he heard the police helicopters, he was scoping out a place to bury them.
I'm glad the police shot and killed him.

Yes the Amber alert system was designed after a little girl, named Amber, in Texas was kidnapped and killed . I was visiting my dad in Texas one time when they activated it for kids that had been kidnapped during a carjacking. Apparently, the carjacker didn't know the kids were in the back. Fortunately, after the system was activated, they received hundreds of calls from motorists who saw the stolen car & kids, after hearing the broadcast on the radio. The car was found ditched on the side of the road with the unharmed kids inside. There's no mistaking the broadcast, because it comes across the TV & radio just like a Tornado Warning would.

We have the Amber Alert System here in Oklahoma where I live.

Yes, it is foolish for kids to be out alone in cars with boys at that hour but I did it to many years ago. The pervs can get at little girls when they are home in their beds also.

That's what is really scary, Oramar. I like to be able to place a *cause* on why these things happen, you know...then you can just avoid doing those things (like being out on a deserted road in a car when you're 16 years old). But heck, Elizabeth Smart was taken from her house, from her own bedroom, with her family in the house!!! Samantha Runion was in her front yard playing with a friend.

Just as I was thinking my daughters were old enough to be left alone at home for a few hours. Way too scary!! I'm especially glad my husband is now working at home and especially glad I have a fierce-looking German Shepherd here too!

Pennsylvania does not have an Amber Alert system. I think it's time!

When I heard the news that they had found those girls I was so thankful. Just wish they could have found them before the perv raped them. And I really hated it that they blew him to hell and back!(not!)

All we as parents can do to protect our children is to know where they are, who they are with, and how long they plan to be where they are. In the home environment, we need to lock ALL windows AND doors at night, and during the day when we aren't going to be watchful of that particular window or door that we tend to leave open thinking it's day time so no one will enter it. We need to set curfews and hold to them with teenagers...if you -- as a parent -- have no need to be "out" after a certain hour, then neither should your children. Also, allowing our children to run in and out of the home to play is OBVIOUSLY no longer SAFE, so now we must WATCH our little ones with a watchful eye ourselves. If we can't be outside watching over them while they play......bring them indoors. Why risk it??? Teenagers have no business doing a lot of things they are doing these days, so why are they doing them??? Whose watching THEM??? I found in raising my own girls that it was DURING their TEEN years they needed me the most. BE THERE OR BE SQUARE.....your kids need you from conception to death. We are NEVER through being a parent. When you leave your children with "family" or "family friends"......do you really KNOW THE CHARACTER you are entrusting your children to???

Many of our neigbors aren't to be trusted because we don't really know their "hidden secrets", so why allow your children to be in their home if you've never been in their homes???
