Meteor Shower

  1. Tonight, August 11, and tomorrow night are supposed to be the best nights to watch the Perseid meteor shower this year. I was out for about an hour tonight. I saw quite a few that flashed for only a fraction of a second, but there were a few that streaked across the entire sky. Makes one feel grand and insignificant at the same time. I feel grand because I am one of God's children in this amazing universe he created for us, and insignificant at the vastness of that same universe. Anyone else a star gazer?

Have been out every night for the last 3 nights, my wife, a blanket, some wine, some good binocs and my night vision toys. Got to see quite a few before they really didn't matter anymore!

I saw my first meteor shower when I was in FL on the beach ... it was pitch black out (d/t sea turtles) and my bf & I sat there for a couple of hours watching them. We must have seen 100 or so. It was just so peaceful. We're going there in a few days ... hope we get a good shower!!

I was out Monday morning around 4:00 and watched for around 1 1/2 hours. Only saw two meteors but enjoyed listening to the crickets and communing with God.

I watched the Leonid meteor shower last year (don't remember the month except that I was cold in spite of being bundled up at 4 a.m.) and I counted 230 meteors over 2 hours-- Spectacular show! **********

The Leonids are in November, and are supposed to be very active for the next couple of years.

Thanks for telling me it was November-- No WONDER I was so chilly! I can't wait to see the Leonids again-- I kept gasping and oohing/aahing at the great show, trying not to wake my neighbors!

I took my Mom out to the country to see them last night. We saw several, but it wasn't as good as years past.
