Marines discover 9/11 mural in Iraq

  1. I was listening to one of the talking heads yesterday, this mural that was found was brought up again. I have not read of any mention of it here, even though we tend to go back and fourth at times in the debate of wether or not there are any ties between 9/11 and Iraq.

    Marines discover Iraqi 9/11 mural
Wednesday, March 26, 2003 Posted: 5:56 PM EST (2256 GMT)

NASIRIYA, Iraq (CNN) -- U.S. Marines searching Iraqi military headquarters in this southern city that was the site of intensive fighting came across a mural depicting a plane crashing into a building complex resembling New York's twin towers, a news agency photograph showed Wednesday.

The plane's logo and coloring resembled that of Iraqi Airlines, said Getty Images News Service executive Brian Felber, based in New York.

The photograph, showing two rifle-toting Marines in front of the mural, was shot by staff photographer Joe Raedle, who is accompanying the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force from Task Force Tarawa.

Getty is a news photo agency that distributes about 500 photographs from around the world each day and has 10 staff members embedded with U.S. forces in the Iraq conflict.

Felber said this photo was "causing a bit of a stir."http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/meast/...rj.iraq.mural/

I heard about this last week. I couldn't find any link, so I didn't mention it.
    Thanks for posting.

Speaking of murals--okay a bit off topic here, but I just wondered if anyone else noticed that the crazy dictators in the world feel a need to plaster murals of their faces all over their countries. I remember seeing this with some of the crazies from WWII--and it just came back watching all these huge posters/pictures of SH all over Iraq. Is this brainwashing or what?

I did hear that evidence was found linking OBL and 9/11 to Iraq, so maybe this is what my source was referring to.

    Thanks

I believe in historical/political science terminology it's called "Cult of the Individual". Stalin and Hitler did it...so did Franco and Mao. I think even Napoleon surrounded himself with heavenly images (to show god was on his side) in large portraits.

Today on Fox they showed the inside of Iraq headquarters in some city. It was pretty funny because the usual poster of "you know who" was hanging and we were told the caption under it said, "the Iraq people are always in my heart and mind". Underneath it a GI had spray painted, "and our foot is in your arse". It was a hoot.

I also read in the WSJ that some of the military are taking Saddam's pictures that they've collected to sell on E-Bay when they get home!!!

Gosh I hope that is a "tall tale"--I can't even imagine, although certainly some things never fail to surprise me.

Thank you Gomer for your reply, I was curious--"Cult of the Individual"--cult rings brainwashing home--thanks!

How intimidating it must have been for the Iraqi people to see his "SH" face everywhere. Gives me the creeps
