Marie_LPN or other acne victims

  1. I found the whole off-brand of proactiv kit for $20 at CVS, but I also found a coupon in the sunday paper for the real proactiv kit plus 2 bonuses for $20. I bought the cheap brand today, I can't wait for something to come in the mail, lol! I do have the 800 number for the real stuff. If anyone wants it and it's okay to post, just LMK.

I bought the off-brand from Wal_Mart the other day, going to start on it tomorrow and see what happens. Hopefully something, i'm tired of caking my face with foundation to hide it.

Amen to that! I'm so sick of looking like Tammy Faye with my foundation!

I have been dealing with the same on going problem forEVER! Had a cousin who bought the REAL proactive...but the day you miss or quit using it, your acne comes back or even gets worse. I bought the Neutrogena home microdermal abrasion kit after spending $200 for a session at a spa...it works pretty good to renew the skin and lighten scars. Dr. prescribed some type of antibiotic, wish i could remember the name...it got rid of the acne i was getting on my chest and back, but didnt do much for my face. Please let me know how these other kits compare.

I'm also switching BC pills in about a week, so maybe there will be a change then.

Has anyone tried Accutane? My son did that. It worked very well. It is risky for some and he had to take vitamin E in high doses and get liver enzymes drwn every week. He has no cystic acne nor any for that matter. He is ok too. We also tried Retin A...mostly worthless for the acne he had.

I loved proactiv but unfortunately the main complaint is that is stops working for some ppl after a while. (It stopped for me too).

    Good luck

Neutrogena gave me a skin rash. Ive heard good things about Proactiv although I have a friend who uses it on a religiously on a daily basis and she still has acne.

I've tried Proactive and the generic versions both. I wasn't really impressed and although it did help, you miss one day and it's disaster again. Maybe it was just me, but I am using Neutrogena products now and they help me more than the expensive things did. I bet switching BC pills will help as well.

I mentioned this one Marie's thread but my daughter used the real EXPENSIVE ProActive for 3 months and it did not work. Made her skin very sensitive to warm/cold water too.

She is breaking out again and using over-the-counter Clearisil and prescription Clindamycin. Just finished her period so that is probably why she broke out - if she is anything like her mom.

I'm taking her to a dermatologist and getting her on the oral antibiotic my two older boys were on.

Question- any good products out there that REALLY work for people who can't use salicylic(sp?) acid? I have tried benzoyl peroxide too, but it just seems to make my skin kinda red and dry. Thanks for all your thoughts... it's kinda reassuring to hear that I am not the only one over 20 still facing the annoying acne junk that is getting worse by the day.

I'm 48 and I use my kid's clindamycin - it works great for those pre-period breakouts. You need an RX for it though.

I am 23 and my skin is worse now than when I was in high school! I never had problems then and now my hormones must be raging out of control!
