Loss of sense.....

  1. Not common sense...

This is kind of a survey, but mostly a question.

Hypothetically speaking...... If today you were given a choice to give up one of the following senses which would it be and why?

    1. sight
    2. hearing
    3. smell
    4. taste
    6. touch

    Just curious

no fairsies....smell and taste cannot be separated, so you're not giving up 1 but 2 senses. i'll have to ponder this further.

OK, I thought...I STILL would give up taste. Hehehehe

You know, I have truly pondered on this one quite often... and while I'm not sure which one I'd choose to give up, I do klnow which one I would NOT want to give up... and that, only after much deliberation.. of course between sight and hearing.

I've decided it would be hearing. I would still prefer to hear over seeing. I don't think I could stand it if I couldn't hear all my favorite sounds.. the ocean, the wind, rain, storms, MUSIC, my birds singing.... even if I couldn't see all this, I could still enjoy hearing it all.....

there are those that maintain that i've lost all my senses... go figure.

Yes, they are separate, aren't they?

*Taste (salty, bitter, sweet, hot?)=taste buds on tongue
    vs.
*Smell (inumnerable number of these)=olfactory epithelium in nose

Or, is my understanding too textbook? I would choose taste for sure. It seems like the least dangerous choice.

Doe this make it easier, let's just say, that for this instance, they are not connected. now..... which one?

ok then, i'll definitely pick taste to go without....only if i could keep my olfactory senses..... truly, in spite of many who think i've lost it "all" , i am someone who uses ALL my senses...before i eat, i always smell. i become mesmerized by a beautiful view as well as glorious sounds...i'm very tactile and always am touching/feeling beautiful things, mainly fabrics. i am a sensual person. i have a feeling many of us would fit that description.

me too! me too ! I fit your description to a tee.

But gee... I can really get into a TASTE, too, y'know? Like just allow it to linger on the tongue, melt in your mouth... some things taste so heavenly, you hate to swallow, cuz then it will be GONE !

Smell. I think of them all I could live without this one. I had a coworker that lost her sense of smell as a child. Must be weird.

hmmmmmmm... but gee... not smelling the rain? The freshly cut grass? Manure in the fileds in the summertime? The way the breeze smells as it comes through your open window at night?

    I dunno........think I'd miss my smells.

And what about certain fragrances which instantly transport you to another time and place, long since forgotten?
