Life insurance...........what do you have??

  1. Hey guys.....hubby and I are discussing life insurance today adn I wanted to see what some of you had and what you thought about it. I have done research and know that we don't want term life and should go with universal life and now I am looking at companies and such. What do you guys think of the policies and companies out there? I want to be sure that if one of us dies the other will be able to at least pay off the house so that the children will have a roof over their head and what they need monetarily w/o that big mortage payment every month. Trying to think ahead.
The other thing....I am looking into buying insurance(20 for the year) to protect myself while a nursing student........what do you guys think about that as well? I told hubby.....Sh*t rolls downhill and I won't be protected by the school if something happens. One girl had an epileptic seizure last year and clinicals and they kicked her out she sued and was just readmitted after winning her lawsuit. Input? Thanks!

Me and HUbby each have $500,000 (20) year term policy.... we pay 230-250 quarterly......

We are also in the process of making an appt with an attorney to do the WILL thing.... who gets the kids.... changing everything to a trust for the kids... for tax purposes...., funeral arrangments...... and a LIVING WILL....

I told him we don't plan on when we are going to die.... so it's best to have this all worked out ahead of time!

I have a policy through my job, $25,000 I think & a small one of my own that would really only cover funeral expenses. But hopefully I won't have to worry about that for a while! Matt has a good policy of his own & his anal retentive dad set up portfolios for his kids probably by age 1, lol, so he's well set for the future. So hopefully he goes first! <oops did I say that outloud> So I'm not to worried about my coverage.

Don't know the dollar amounts for my parents, but since my dad is sole income, if he dies the house/land will be paid for & my mom will get an "income" of so much a year for 5 yrs for her & my sisters. It will give her time to get remarried according to the insurance guy! (Which probably wouldn't take long ) But I think it's a pretty good setup.

I know you don't want term, but think about this option. If you go with Northwest Mutual (I think that's what it's called).........you can get term for now (which is MUCH cheaper and may be a better option while you're in school, etc), and once you're insured, you can change it to whole life later with no problem since you're already covered with them. That way, you save money when you need it (during school) and then can switch to the coverage you want later without being denied coverage d/t age, medical, etc. Oh, and we have $150,000 on myself and $250,000 on hubby.
