Lastest Star Trek movie

  1. The first 15 min. are a little slow but once it gets rolling it rocks. All the old timers give really good performances. The young actor that plays the bad guy excels. It was almost like watching a really good performance of Hamlet. I also loved the bad guys spaceship. It is the most sinister spacecraft I have ever seen. Won't be saying anymore. Don't want to ruin it for anyone else.

I can't wait. I actually go to the conventions, but I DON'T dress up!
Just got done reading the reviews in the paper. Clearly the guy who reviewed the movie IS NOT a Trekkie OR a Trekker.

Y'all know the difference between a Trekkie and a Trekker, right?

A Trekkie is one who loves and follows ALL the Star Trek shows: The original, New Generation, Voyager, and Deep Space Nine and ALL the motion pictures.

A Trekker knows everything about each character, can answer any and all trivia, and can speak Klingon.

    Here's some sample Trekker questions:
    - What does the "T" stand for in Captain James T. Kirk?
    - Who's voice was the computer voice in the original Star Trek?
    - Which show had the space shuttle "Galileo"?

Vegas, I didn't know you were into Trek! That does it--next time I visit Las Vegas, we're going to Quark's! (I always get hit on by the Klingons--guess they don't see too many women hanging around or something. ) Ever had a Warp-Core Breach?

I thought I was a Trekker, but I can't speak Klingon and I'm only sure of the answer to one of your questions (the 'T" stands for Tiberius).

Was the shuttle Galileo on The Next Generation?

And I know Majel Barrett Roddenberry's done the computer voice for a long time now, but who was it in the original series?

Ooooh, Stargazer! You got 2 out of 3 correct! Majel Barrett was the voice in the original series. You are correct with Tiberius. Galileo was in the original series - usually piloted by Spock.

You're on - drinks on me at Quarks!!

Edited to add: I also own a pair of scrubs that say "Star Fleet Medical Corps".

I just found out, the name of the young actor whose performance I was praising is Tom Hardy. Didn't I hear somewhere that all those English actors that give those intense performances come from the same school of acting?

Just in case anyone wants to learn Klingon:

I be a geek. I preferred to call myself a trek-o-phile thank you very much. I am the owner of a very dog-eared star trek encyclopedia, followed TNG and DS9 very faithfully. Just haven't watched any of them lately. I will go to see Nemesis, and will enjoy it throroughly.

I didn't know that they were going to make another movie until I saw the previews on TV. I will probably go cause I love Picard but I love the original series the best. I love Kirk, Spock, Bones and Scotty. Everytime I see the show or a movie come on I stop my TV there and watch. SCIFI channel had a marathon of them on one of the holidays in November and I almost was late for work watching it.......

I love Star Trek for their philosophy on life, and everything I know about teamleading I learned from Jean Luc. Someone on this BB said they had a class somewhere based on his style of leadership- I would take that course, or one that talked about Star Trek in depth. Not the plotlines, but the meaning behind each show. It will certainly be held up in the future as being ahead of it's time, by centuries probably.

Canoe I agree. I love the message of Star Trek. I think what made me stop watching was their tendancy to recycle old plotlines and themes from the two original series. Used up all the good ideas.
