Lack of sex drive

  1. I really hope this isn't a tmi topic... I am just searching for some answers or advice. :imbar Feel free to move this if need be.

For about the past 6 months I have had a huge lack of sex drive. I believe it is hormonal or chemical. I have tried 3 different kinds of birth control pills this year alone (now I am on Yasmin) in attempts to see if maybe that is it. I am only on a multivitamin (no other types of meds) . I don't have any serious stress in my life and get a decent amount of sleep. I love my husband, am attracted to him, etc. but no desire for sex. I'd rather sleep, clean the house, read, etc.

I have also noticed a slight loss of muscle around my stomach area which also makes me believe it might be hormonal ????/

Has anyone else experienced this ? It is very strange. I have not talked to my Dr. about it. Embarrassment I guess. I am only 27. No kids.

    Thanks for listening.

Any chance you have poly cystic ovarian syndrome? (you might also have abnormal periods, fewer periods, increased hair growth, usually in areas you don't want it).

    Another idea is low testosterone.

But it's not my area so I'm only guessing.

    I honestly don't know.

I went to the gyn. in January for my annual and requested a thyroid ck. I got my blood drawn and got a letter saying everythign was "normal". I was thinking it was thyroid because of the slight weight gain, etc.

I do have abnormal periods but I figured that was due to constantly changing pills.

How do they check for that ?

    thanks.

    hi holly,

your doctor can check hormone levels quite easily, and they would not be a part of your routine physical....so although your cbc, cmp, thryoid were wnl, there's really no reason to check on other levels.

Hello, I just read your thread, "lack of sex drive..." I am 29 years old and have been with my boyfriend of 6 years, and am very happy with our relationship. But, for prob. about 1 year+, I have had NO sex drive, (could care less!!) and I am struggling to find out what I can do to change that prob. I only take Ortho-Tri Cyclen for meds, and have been on for 8 years.....I am going in for my annual pap this month, and am going to talk to the doc about it......Let's keep in touch, Hopefully we can find the answers we need! ( I also have no children, but someday would love to!)
    take care,

I am not quite sure how GYNs dx polycystic ovarian disorder. We are doing a study at my facility but it's still new enough that I don't have all the facts. We are treating with metformin vs. placebo. Women with it do seem to feel "perkier" if they get the metformin -- but what we're mostly looking at is unwanted hair growth (as in chin, mustache, back, upper arm, buttocks) which definitely gets better.

Sometimes low sex drive is also due to low testosterone levels, which is a blood test.

Doesn't sound like depression or anxiety are problems, so at least you don't have to look at those.

Your gyn has heard it before, so don't be embarrassed, and make an appointment!

I have PCOS and I have problems with my libido at times too (although I have depression as well-that is the bigger controller)

Here is a great link for you that talks about PCOS-the sx (which vary), the dx and tx...Might help with an appt with your ob/gyn!
