King Arthur

  1. This movie, much to my delight will be coming out in July, I was wondering what your favorite Arthur legend movie is ? I loved all of them including Disney's Sword in the Stone, and Monty P's Holy Grail, right now my fave is Excalibur, we'll see if it stays that way in a week or two.

What's your favorite Arthur legend movie or was it one of the Merlin flics, maybe you liked Mists of Avalon, about the Arturian women ?

The next part of this relates to the Arthur reincarnation legend... I have been told, in a lecture I attended, that many of the Brittish population feel that Prince Charles is the reincarnation of Arthur, don't know if this is true or not, maybe Prince William is the one, if there is one, I'd like to know who in this world is Arthur's reincarnation, at least who do you think ?

I saw this 2 hour special with introduction by Ioan Gruffudd(Lancelot) about the basis of the King Arthur myth. It was on History channel and it was sooo interesting I watched it twice. Ioan Gruffudd is convinced that Arthur was from Wales and is burried near or in Avon. He said that with a smile because everyone knows he is also from Wales and speaks it fluently. I have had a crush on him ever since he played Horatio Hornblower. PS Yes I know he is 25 years younger than me and I could get arrested but I don't care. PPS his parents are historians and deeply involved in promoting anything from Wales.

Ioan isn't the only person who thinks Arthur was from Wales, I've heard that theory from other places. Hadn't heard about Charles though. Isn't Arthur supposed to return during England's darkest hour?

My history proff said there really was an Arthur who was greatly influenced by Romans. But his legend far outgrew the reality. Who knows, though? I love the idea of Arthur and Camelot.

I don't know which is my favorite Arthur film. It's a toss up between Excalibur and Monty Python's Holy Grail. Two vastly different approaches, that's for sure.

I also really like Mary Stewart's Crystal Cave serious, though it focused more on Merlin's point of view.

Charles is the Prince of Wales. The lecturer had said that some felt that Charles had been born after their darkest hour, WWII, during which they were rebuilding, some felt his contribution would be to save Brittan because he was such an avid environmentalist... I don't know, I was kind of hoping someone across the pond would pop in for a bit and set it straight (regarding Charles).

I liked that made for tv movie called Mist of Avalon, it was told from Morgana's perspective. Morgana is usually portrayed as a villian but not here. I heard from someone that Mist of Avalon was a highly successful book.

YES! Those books were incredible. I'd like to re-read them someday...like when I get out of school.

The Mists of Avalon was written by Marion Zimmer Bradley. I've read it twice. It is a wonderful book: nice and loooong so you can really enjoy it.

"I am Arthur, King of the Britons!"

    "King of the who?"

    "The Britons!"

    "Who are the Britons?"

Hands down...Monty Python & the Search for the Holy Grail! Ni!

HEY! People are responding to this thread and no one responded to my thread about "The Dark Tower"? Sheesh, FINE!!!!

Monty Python's Holy Grail rocks. But my favorite and most hilarious King Arthur film was a film I saw in my English class. Luke Skywalker from Star Wars played a young and dorky King Arthur and Jean Luke Berkard from Star Trek played one of his brave and valiant knights. I don't know the name of the film. It is very old.

How come no one is responding to my thread???

I didn't see the Dark Tower thread, sorry. I'm ashamed to say I have'nt read the Tolkein books since high school, waaaaaay back when. I didn't want to see the movies until all three were available in a DVD set with some commemorative stufff attached. :chuckle

Susanna, you have my permission to take out the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch and use it on those who did not reply. On the count of three...not one, not two, three...
