I live in San Diego and work @ a teaching hospital. We have had a real problem w/staffing for several months, partly due to higher census than was budgeted for. However, thing are looking WAY up currently as we have hired lots of new staff and perdiems.

We have managed day-to-day because we have a management team that is very committed to having us be staffed each shift, so they have used a registry that the staff nurses can sign up for extra shifts and even half shifts for time and a half or double time. One nurse has made over $10,000 since the beginning of the year!
