Just an RN?

  1. A strange feeling was experienced by me recently...... I visited my old nursing school recently for a health conference, and I thought it'd be fun to see some old classmates and network with new nurses and such.

Interesting experience, as I am visiting some of the booths, everyone recognizing familiar faces, one of the first questions asked, "So what are you doing now?" and an interesting response, "So you're just an RN?"

huh? I remember being just a CNA, and just an LPN, now I am just an RN?

It was great to see the accomplishments of many now NP, MSN's and PHD's.
I was very happy for their accomplishments, but have never really considered myself "just" anything. hmmmmmmm?

    anyone have similar experience?

Absolutely!!!! I would love to shave that word "just" away from nurse. We, none of us are "just" anything. We, RN, LVN. LPN, EN, AIN, CNA are ALL nurses and special people :kiss

We do it to ourselves. How many times to patients and family members do we say things like "You'll have to ask your doctor I'm just the nurse". "No I'm not your doctor, I'm just a nurse." "I'll tell your nurse you want pain medicine, I'm just the aide.".

We should remove "just" from our vocabulary.

Those who are "higher" than the rest should get off their pedistals at stop referring to us as "just a nurse" too.
