Joy & Pain - Sunshine & Rain

  1. Where to start... where to start....

Okay. Update on the new boyfriend. Things are going wonderful . Ah, love is in the air! He's met my friends, made the official appearance at choir rehearsal, attended the Poet's Society meeting and blushed when I read a poem about... him! . I've met his friends, I've made the official appearance at his place. Smoochy smoochy, kiss kiss.

Went out this weekend with our friends and had a blast!! Dinner, dancing, drinks, it was wonderful. Packed my overnight bag, long talk with Emma, told the folks I'd see them in the morning, and off I went.

Came home today to the Salem Witch Trial. At the trial any and all people I have dated in the past (like, 5, since age 16?) and perceived errors in judgement or stupidity since high school were entered into evidence. The prosecution maintained that Howard (the new beau) has lost all respect for me and would not respect any person who would behave in such a manner. The prosecution submits that a MOTHER cannot and does not leave said premises overnight for any reason whatsoever without being perceived as a harlot, tramp, hussie, ho, or strumpet. Judgement was rendered that if any further activity that could and would be perceived as questionable in behavior would result in them LEAVING as they will not participate or condone such wanton behavior from a member of the family. This judgement does not apply to any siblings as they are single and have no responsibilities. Any MENTION of said judgement and court proceedings to the supposed new boyfriend is strongly advised against as he seems like a nice young man and "we wouldn't want to give him the impression that we are trying to run your life." Hmpf!

Hope all of you had a wonderful weekend, mine was great and sucked all at the same time. :stone

Sorry Vegas. Maybe next time you can say you are going to bed early and sneak out the bedroom window? (worked for me in High school )

    oh wow....

I'm so glad you had a good time with your new boyfriend!

Good grief about your parents... it doesn't sound like you could ever make them think differently, so don't sweat it. I know it's hard, it's your parents, try not to let them put a cloud over you. I don't have any great words of advice (obviously) My parents sound just like yours. I was a single mom at one time too.

    Do they live with you?

Jeez...don't know what to say here except it's YOUR life. Maybe they have been listening to too much Laura Schlessinger...??

Isn't there another option for babysitting??? Siblings? Friends? Seems like that would take some of your parents feelings of "responsibility" to keep you under their thumb away from them.

It almost sounds from your post, like your parents are more afraid of what their friends or your other family members might think, than anything else.

I would just tell them that it is their right to decide whether or not to watch the kiddo while you are gone, but that if they don't then you will just find someone else who is just as responsible as them to do it.

When will parents understand that setting ultimatums for their adult children just don't work? (or shouldn't work. I guess there are plenty of adults out there that don't mind having their life run still by their parents)

Man, someone's always gotta rain on the parade, don't they?

Glad things are going well with Howard. I'd say you need a new babysitter for overnight outings; and I wouldn't share any details of said outings (or volunteer any other Howard-related news, for that matter) with the 'rents from now on. Maybe they'll decide it's better to hear something they don't approve of than get shut out of part of your life altogether. If not, at least you're not giving them an opening for The Spanish Inquisition, Part Dos .

Oh, Lord, and I certainly hope you plan to tell Howard this stuff. He deserves to know what he's walking into the next time he sees them.

So--you're a **** but Howard's a nice young man? And your siblings are fine because they're not parents? Interesting double standard, there. Dude--you need to buy your parents a copy of The Madonna/Whore Complex, stat!

Yes, parents are here until May, then they are back off to Ohio.

Not sure what to say about Howard's reaction. He could tell I was upset when he called just now. Was offended that they were making the decision of who he thinks is respectable or not, said a lot of problems were caused by his former in-laws before his divorce years ago (oh, great, just great), asked what if we have Emma stay with us over the weekend sometime...

my head hurts... not used to drama... don't like drama...
