  1. has apparently given an Oscar-worthy performance in Dreamgirls. Anyone see it yet?

I remember her from AI and was incredibly impressed then. I thought she had the chance to take it to the finish line, but she was voted off early.

I haven't seen the film yet, but I will. I HAVE heard the soundtrack, and I've seen her on the talk show circuit... she is stunning! And her voice is just incredibly awesome.

I officially have this week and next off (though in reality I'm going to be working nearly every day because I'm so far behind!) My son has school all week... maybe I'll go see it tomorrow.

I think it opens Christmas day. I will be seeing it. The entire cast is talented and the movie looks like great entertainment. Jennifer had a beautiful voice on AI, didn't always pick the right songs and I think nerves played a part back then. Looks like the right thing finally came along for her!

As SOON as we get the wrapping paper of the present I'll be in line to see DREAMGIRLS

*Sunny, in her best Jennifer Holiday voice sings*

"No, no, no, nooooooooh way, No, no, no, noooooooh way I'm livin' without youuuuuuu!"

Oops, well, then, I guess I won't be seeing it tomorrow! (Drats, I was looking for an excuse to put off my work!) Maybe I can persuade this lot to go with me on Christmas... I know dh will, but ds will be a harder sell.

They had a limited opening to qualify for Golden Globes and Oscars, and sure enough she snagged a Golden Globe nomination.

The wide release isn't until Xmas Day, but the buzz it that it's a great movie, especially the first half.

Her performance during the movie of "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going" apparently steals the show. (Season 1 singer Tamyra Gray sang it during the show)

Jennifer Holiday orginated the role on Broadway and won a Tony in 1982. I remember having the LP on vinyl and still have it on a cassette tape. I'm looking very forward to the movie.

Here's the original version by Jennifer Holiday. Listen to the whole thing. It's amazing.

That's funny, muffie, I was thinking that maybe my husband would be buying me the soundtrack (and by that I mean that maybe I'd go buy it, wrap it up and stick his name on it). Isn't it wonderful how thoughtful he is???
