It's OFFICIAL !!!

  1. omg... my son.. my one and only son.. my .....baby... now officially belongs to uncle sam ! he went yesterday and completed his physical for the us navy, and was sworn in immediately thereafter.

definately mixed emotions racing around here... on the one hand happy, excited, proud... and on the other waaaaaaaaaaaahhh !!!

but...... since his sister is getting married in may, and he really didn't want to miss her wedding, he won't be going to bootcamp 'til august.. it was either april or august.. so he decided to wait 'til then. but he's still officially already "in".

well, that will give us the summer together yet.. we can go tubing down the river, have cookouts, and enjoy his time with us before he heads off to bootcamp. he has a job interview monday with office max.. worked for them while he was out in tucson, so he'll have enough income to get him through the summer as well.

ok.. just thought i'd share and get it off my chest... needed to do something with all these crazy feelings ! thanx for allowing me to throw it all out there! sniff! sniff! one minute i'm jumping up and down all happy and silly, the next i'm all :uhoh21: ......

gotta go on over to the navy website now and have them rush me one of those "my son is in the navy" stickers... heh....

the feelings you must be experiencing. My heart goes out to you. I know you are proud. I also know you must be a bit scared. I know, I am mom too, and military wife. Tell your son THANK YOU for me, will you please? And yes, do enjoy your time together before he departs. Bless you and your family.

    Aww, Deb... thanx. :kiss

I'll be sure to tell him. But I must be honest here and admit that HIS reason for going in is not motivated by patriotism as much as it is to finally be able to the two things he's been wanting to do for awhile now... go to college, and dive. He could afford neither on his own, so this way he gets to do both.. plus travel, see more fascinating new places... (he's hoping for Greece)...and dive, dive dive !!! He definately has been qualified for the Navy Diver program, and he's thrilled about that.

But I'm hoping that through this experience.. (yes, thank you Rusty !) he will also become more aware of and in tune with his country...that it might instill a bit of pride.. y'know? He's never shown much interest in politics or things of such nature... and while I'm not exactly a "flag-waver" in the sense of being overly patriotic.. I take active interest in the state of affairs of this country, and do so love this great nation of ours, even with its many flaws.

As you know, his Dad and I both served our country as well... also his grandpa (my Dad) whom he never had the chance to meet. So hopefully this will instill a bit of pride of service and help him to mature in some areas...as WELL as giving him the opportunity to persue his own goals and dreams.

So hopefully it will broaden his horizons in more areas than one. And of course the "mom" in me is tickled to death about the "structure" it will give him.. heh heh... "MAKE YOUR BED, SON" !!!

Well... come August, I'll be flooding the BB with his first "uniform pictures"... ...so be prepared ! :chuckle

Tee hee... his sister is already laughing her head of trying to picture his tall, lanky self in those Navy bellbottoms, and his "little sailor hat" ! He's ready to clobber her !

As an Army-brat, I only know too well the sacrifices and commitment and bravery it takes.

    Best wishes.

    soooooooooooooo

His motivations are not "pure".....that is ok with ME. Mine were not, either. But I am a veteran as well as military wife, so --- I know how hard it can get.......and...

he will makes some serious sacrifices nonetheless; his motives are not my concern......I am glad he is stepping forward to serve, no matter what motivates him. So jnette, for that, I THANK YOU ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Keep us informed, with pics and all! I can understand the mixed emotions. And here he's choosing (just like a REAL adult!!) for himself. As I tell my boys, "You buttered your bread, now lie in it." Well, it doesn't apply exactly, in this case for him, but -- you know what I mean
    Hang in there! -- D

i know the mix of emotions you must be going through right now, since at the moment I am sitting here with my sailor who is visiting on a weekend leave. If you would be interested, there is a very good informative support group online on delphi called NMOL (NavyMomsOnline) (dads too!). It's a closed forum, so if you would be interested, drop me an e-mail at bagladynurse@aol.com and I'll send you the link to join. Just about any question you may have, someone on there knows the answers.

I am former Navy and my Hubby is still in. Believe me, of all the services he could join, I feel better having my husband in the Navy, seeing as he doesnt see any land battles. My heart breaks for the ARmy and Marines who are losing more men every day .

There are a lot of educational opportunities in the military, make sure your son investigates these fully. Does he know his specialty yet?
I wish him much luck .
