Is this perimenopause?

  1. Yikes, am I too young for this? I am 34(ok Im almost 35) and have been losing sleep, literally. I am so HOT! I feel like jumping out the window and I see my DH sleeping peacefully in long pants, long sleeves and covered in a comferter, while I am lying on TOP of the blankets deliberating taking a cold shower(not from being turned on). My last period lasted 12 days, so I wonder about this. My mom had completed menopause by 42 she said. Is this genetic? My huxband said hes moving out(he was kidding...I hope )
    Thanks.

Perimenopause can last a LOONG time, like about ten years, starting with subtle differences in mood, sleep pattern, etc. Start keeping a diary of when any unusual syptoms appear and see where they fall in your cycle. It will take a couple of months but if you start to see a pattern, you'll have your answer (plus you'll have some info to pass on to your gyn at your next visit.)

Agree with Chaya. The being hot didn't start first with me, but ut was DEFINATELY a major part of it... (and still is, even though I'm now 8 years postmenopausal.) For me it was the irregular menses, often extremely HEAVY ones... then sometimes a lack of menses.. then again some that would last 12-20 days... just really crazy !

Then came the hot FLASHES first... in the face and upper body. After about a year these passed, but then came the being hot all over like you describe. Lasts about a minute or two, then I'm ready to crawl back under the covers.

But when it hits... OFF with the covers !!! All four limbs streched out like a stick figure... need the WHOLE bed to myself so I can spread eaglle ! :imbar

Yep... not pleasant. But that's been the worst of it for me,... no mood swings.. ever. No depression, no crankies... nothing. So I can live with the hot.

I started perimenopause at about 40...

    Thanks gals.
jnette, yes I throw the covers off the bed then 5 min later I am chilled. This then repeats ALL night. Time to visit my GYN(oh heck,I don't know if I wanna know)

hooooboy, sounds like the real thing ! :stone

Yep... better go. As for me, I'm happy it's over and done with ! Still have the "night heats", but not nearly as often as I used to. But I still wake up with my head and hair soaked at times... sux. But mostly now, I just sleep right on through it... barely even notice when I do the "covers off, covers on" thing anymore... I just do it and sleep right on...

    Wish you the best !

Yep same thing here. I wake up with the hots take off the covers and then cold. Alot like )enette. Also the heavy menses followed by nothing for a few months...Go see the gyne you are pretty youg for this and maybe can be helped with some BCP. Good luck remember there are alot of us with you.
