Is it just me....

  1. or is there a lot of bad news in the US this past week, I've seen floods, mudslides, wildfires and avalanches.

Did anyone see the picture of the EMT rescuer and the infant they saved in a raging flood. The baby was looking right at the guys face and it was an amazing picture. I can't seem to find it now, but saw it on a patient's tv last night.

Seems like the Red Cross is going to be busy right here at home too.

Yes, Tweets, it HAS been a crazy beginning to the New Year... here and abroad. Let's hope this is not an omen or precursor of what's yet to come.
Tornado warning yesterday even here at home, in the mountains.. sheeeesh.

jnette, I thought last year with all the hurricanes was enough. Seems mother nature isn't done with us yet.

There was an almost identical slide in 1995 in the same place.

Governor vows to aid La Conchita as rescue crews seek survivors
    BEN FOX, Associated Press Wri
(01-12) 23:33 PST LA CONCHITA, Calif. (AP) --
Rescue workers, buoyed by word late Wednesday that everyone believed to be missing following a deadly mudslide has now been accounted for, continued to dig through a giant pile of mud and debris nonetheless, seeking to make sure that no one was overlooked...
...Earlier Wednesday, as rescue workers searched for survivors, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger arrived at this picturesque seaside hamlet to survey the devastation. He promised residents the state would help them return to their homes...

Our winter here in western Oregon has been pretty uneventful thus far, but today we are having an ice storm......freezing rain all day, and it hasn't warmed up the way the forecasters said it would. :stone Sure hope the power doesn't go out, like it did last winter when we had three weeks worth of snow and ice!

We may have some flooding problems later this coming week if the temps rise into the upper 50s and the warm rains cause the mountain snows to melt, but with any luck it either won't warm up quite that much or rain as much as they're predicting. Of course, I personally would love to see temps in the upper 50s---I hate the cold---but it would be better for the snowpack to stay where it is, so we don't have flooding now and water shortages this summer.

    Ah, summer.........~sigh~.........

This is bizzare! There's not an inch of snow on the ground here in Buffalo!

Well for the past two weeks we have had sunny skies and upper 70 degrees to 80 degrees here in FL.

I think that what is happening across the country can be attributed to...

    crappy weather.

I just got phone and internet back. It's been out since last week thanks to the rain, but other than that things are pretty normal here. After seeing the devastation in south east Asia, I don't think anything could seem that bad here...

    Wondered where you were.

Just got off the phone with my son . . .he was sitting outside his apartment reading. It was over 80 today in So. Cal. He played basketball and went swimming. I'm very jealous.

Cold here .. .no rain or snow though. No real bad weather things have happened here this winter.

It's beyond freezing here. Quite frigid actually.

I don't want to imagine what Canada and Alaska must be going through

It was rough Steph... You never know how bad the allnurses addiction has become until your phone lines don't work and you can't get online I assume Deb was still able to read my mind and post all my thoughts anyways, so I wasn't worried
