Is Anyone Else Afraid??
-
Maybe it's just me, and perhaps I should stop watching the news, reading the paper or logging on to cnn.com, but with all the intense fighting going on in the middle east, India and Pakistan, I'm getting nervous. Very nervous.
Almost every day now, a suicide bomber does their deed. Every day increased tensions all around. I feel it's just a matter of time when suicide bombing will spill into America. So much hatred everywhere. So many people willing to die.
I was actually thinking of moving to Canada. They don't seem to piss anyone off there - I say that half jokingly but it's kinda true, don't you think?
Some may call this paranoia, but I'm really afraid.Jun 20, '02Ill quote you from another thread LasVegasRN....
I think perhaps you need to "get some d**k" and you won't have any time to be reading the papers or logging on to CNN.com!
Seriously though, life goes on.. I don't mean that we should forget or ignore the terrible things that are happening, but a life lived in fear is no life at all.
HeatherJun 20, '02Im glad that you say your scared. Im scared too. It's really 2002, and it seems like anything can happen/all ready has happened/ hasn't happened yet. So many people still starving all over.
WTC and Pentagon was struck, America went after them, but no resolve. What ever did that to WTC and Pentagon on 9/11 hasn't communicated. All we hear on the news is "security."
It's okay to be scared. If your scared, say your scared :-)
Jun 20, '02Las VegasRN...I'm so very sorry to hear, all these awful things have frightened you.And I believe your fears are very real indeed. Yes it all very scary..
I do however feel you can't let those things occupy your mind for any lenght of time! There is simply too much happening, and the only thing we can do about it is pray! I can remember as a teen, during the Viet Nam era, being so afraid of what was happeing over there! You just have to concentrate your focus elsewhere. Easier said then done....but it the only thing we can really do. But have faith, and I pray that your fears will subside...and be replaced with the calm in the midst of the storm..

---Yes, and how many times must a man look up,
before he can see the sky
Yes, and how many ears must one man have
before he can hear people cry
Yes, and how many deaths will it take till he knows,
that too many people have died.
The answer my friend is blowin in the wind,
the answer is blowin in the wind.

I share the same concern. There are actully times when I find myself saying . . . "Will someone please just 'push the button' and get it over with . . ."!!
I'm not very optimistic with regards to the human species. Hate, greed, "fear of change", egocentrism, xenophobia exists in all countries and all cultures. . . some more than others. Fanaticism of all kinds is added fuel to the fire.
Nope . . . I'm not optimistic.
However, I can't live a life of fear.
As Micro puts it, we've got to "keep on keeping on . . ."
I actually say the "Serenity Prayer" to help keep myself grounded and not turn into a bundle of "doom and gloom".
. . . and there's nothing wrong with a little "wink, wink . . .say no more, say no more" to help keep spirits bright!
Peace, LasVegasRN . . . Peace to you . . . and to us!

I'm picking up what your putting down.
I'm not afraid/scared as much as saddened by all of the recent events. I can't understand the hate, greed, genocide, starvation, killing, bombing, etc. Now more than ever, I appreciate my life & my freedoms. I try not to worry about the what if's. I will deal with those situations when and if they arise.
Chin up buckaroo!
-KJun 20, '02I find I don't watch the news that much it's too overwhelming. I don't ignore it but I "live". I don't want to live my life scared and hiding, like they do over in Pakistan and all those countries. That's what they want, us to live like them...well i feel they brought a life of hiding and being scared on themselves with all their fighting over stupid sh**.Jun 20, '02Originally posted by efiebke
