Is America Sinking Fast Under It's Own Greed or What???

  1. I thought it would be a great learning experience for Allnurses to learn from one another in regards to our "changing America", especially in the past year.

I notice the morality of this country slipping fast, and it scares me!

Seems like our politicians are all out for themselves so they can retire with a healthy lifestyle financially speaking, and the poor are just getting poorer while the middle class American pays the cost as they are being squeezed between the two classes tax wise.

    What say you? :stone

Don't get me started, Renee !!!

I have made it a point to really TRY to avoid these topics, because my soapbox would rot out from under my feet before I ever step down off of it !

Yes, I agree. And it's been in the works for a LONG time already... not something new. Corruption of ALL kinds is an ancient ill. I think due to our 24 hour access to all kinds of "bad" news and reports we just seem more AWARE of it now. But, yeah.. I also think it's getting worse...

no.. nope.. better not get me started..
    Shut up, Jnette

ok... so get out of your "blue funk" and put that smile back on your face !

One day at a time, Renee ! Look for the good.. it's still out there.
(want my magnifying glass? You might still find it ! ) :chuckle

Yeh, things are pretty sukky, but let's find just ONE GOOD THING each day... for the emotional shot in the arm, ok? Did you bring a smile to a patient's lips today? Good for you ! Allow yourself to feel good about it. It may not pay for your supper or ease the ache in your feet, but it does still soothe the heart...

... and the heart does feed the rest of the body, right? So we'll start with that.

Hugs to you ! Life IS rough sometimes... but I've known it to be rougher.. haven't you?

    jnette....you're terrific! :kiss

I'm up and at em again today ready for another long day of abuse, but I will take with me the attitude of joy and enjoy that which is before me, and bite my tongue for those issues I can't seem to get the management to do anything about.

Why is it the "good comments" patients pay me never get reported, but only the ones that a dissatisfied customer reports because they are acting like spoiled brats instead of adults?

We don't get commended for the good we have done in a days work. But, let one itty bitty thing we do or don't do upset a visitor or patient and you would think we broke a major law.

All nursing can't be this way. Somebody pleeeeeezzzz tell me it aint so! :chuckle

Many years ago, I realized that in order for America to focus on the things that are truly important some major "thing" would need to happen. I didn't know then what it was...still wondering what it will be, if at all.

As a society, we keep wanting "more," whatever that is. I think that folks are trying to fill up a space in their souls that cannot be filled with the material or physical but can only be filled with spiritual sustenance. As a result of trying to fill this empty space, we wind up debasing ourselves and others.

Just my thoughts on the topic of American Greed.

Eltrip, I totally agree with this statement.

Greed is nothing new, folks, read your history books.

I can't change America, I can only change me. The only person's money and spending habits I can control are mine. I can try to influence other people, but in the long run, the only person I can change is me.

several years ago I watched parts of a PBS series which examined
    the downfall of ancient civilizations.
the main theme seemed to be
    people destroy themselves
    by greed

    the story is old

'there is no calamity greater than lavish desires
there is no greater guilt than discontentment
and there is no greater disaster than greed'

It' s not an isolated phenomen either, folks. Greed is a world-wide universal problem. Hey, all we can do is take care of our homes/personal lives and ---

    Want what we have.

To get myself down about it is not helpful to me.

    Excellent!
And that's exactly what I'm working on in my little corner of the world...and trying to teach to my child (who wants EVERYTHING but is rapidly learning that mommy won't buy it if she doesn't NEED it!)

An old but true motto that I've lived by for years: "Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without."

This is my partial explanation for keeping/wearing socks (still in good condition) that I've owned since 1981. :chuckle

LOL, this reminds me of my husband, a well established tight-wad /pack rat at age 25! He has underwear that no way no how would fit him anymore (think underoo's and you'd be close!) but he keeps them! why? I have no freaking clue! also has socks that are NOT in good repair, heels missing, toes poking out, thankfully most of these have been relegated to lawn mowing duties.
