Intestinal Flu...It's back!

  1. last year in feb. we went through this and it was a mess! i've never seen anything like it...everyone vomiting with diarrhea. it just came through like a tornado. i'd hope i'd never see it again, but alas last night two employees came down with it. if anyone knows me here, i can stand anything in nursing from blood and guts to suctioning, but, don't vomit infront of me...please! the reeeeeeeeetching, the vomit, the smell just makes me ruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun away holding my ears and nose. to me it's the worst that could happen.... h-e-l-p!

UGH! A few weeks ago like almost every resident and employee had it! I got it really bad. There was HONESTLY NOT enough people to replace me. It really sucked because I was so weak and sick I could hardly lift , and when I did, i worried about having an explosion of one type or another. I was feeling HORRIBLE!

the Newark virus is making its round here in Vienna! Last week they had to close a few schools. Till now we are healthy, but I preach to my family everyday about handwashing, when not necessary not to use the toilets at school and at work etc.
Hope the poor sick feel better soon!

A bunch of the floors at my hosp are closed down from Gastroenteritis, no visitors allowed, full isolation precautions before entering and leaving the units...the whole nine yards. Thankfully the paeds unit hasn't seen a closure, although we have had a huge number of gastro paeds in the past week. Many of the staff are off...if showing any S&S of gastro they are not allowed in the hospital until 48hrs after all symptoms have cleared...its just a nightmare.
Good luck to everyone else out there who may be dealing with the same thing...gastro, norwalk, etc.

It's here too... It was here a couple months ago also. Now it's back.. It's really bad here also. Vomiting, dirarrea, dehydration. People are being taken to the emergency room and put on IV fluids....

YUCK! Glad I just had the normal flu..

So far only one resident has come down with it here in the clinic. Came to work and ended up getting an IV. Didn't last long for him, but I think he got it from somewhere else while he was off, and went to another hospital for a rotation.

toronto is having a horrible time with norwalk outbreaks, the hospital I work at has a few patients with it but thankfully our ER remains open, unlike many of the hospitals here in the city.. I had a touch of it myself ,and it was HORRIBLE!
I think we have bout four nurses on my unit off with it now , and quite a few ppl I go to school with have had it .....
bleh go away norwalk we dont want your kind here!

This nasty stuff is hitting our area with a vengeance too. One of our nurses called in sick Saturday. She reported for work at 6:45 am Sunday and we sent her home at 11 am. She said Saturday morning she had it coming out both ways and literally laid on the bathroom floor...said her 3 year old had it on Thursday.

We have had a few admissions with this so far, but seeing more pneumonia. The nursing home our hospital runs is evidently been closed to visitors D/T flu outbreak. Yuck.

I had my bout in November. Don't care to repeat it anytime soon....

They had to quarantine our Nursing Home also. I've washed my hands so much they feel like sandpaper! So far I've been lucky and I'd like to keep it that way. Hope everyone stays away from this beast...Good luck
