Imagine....the 9/11 attacks succeeded

  1. I see friends and neighbors tortured and slaughtered.
Cities ruined, daughters raped, sons mutilated.
    And those freakin' burkahs.
No health care for women. No jobs for women.
No civil rights. No human rights.
No infrastructure--bad (or no) drinking water, medical supplies.

    Consider, if you will:
What would you imagine YOUR neighborhood looking like if the Flight 93 terrorists had succeeded in wiping out our government that day? What if there was more to the plan, and others were standing by to coup the government after the attack? And of course, what if they'd had nuclear missiles?

As we approach the anniversary of September 11, we need to remember just how close they got to succeeding. And that their near-success only encouraged them to try again. Bin Laden and his followers are still out there. We know Hussein is a madman (who not only has top scientists in his country working on cloning him, but also has chemical weapons that he's used on his own people, and is in the process of making nuclear weapons), but Mid-Eastern countries are doing nothing stop them; they only make motions to appease us.

We don't want war because we lose lives, time, energy and resources. But maybe we need to see how the enemy thinks: with some lives, time, energy, and resources, the greatest country in the world will be effectively subjugated. Add a little "ethnic cleansing" to the dish, and we'll never again be a great country.

Our government knows how they think...too bad it costs too much money to make sure things like this don't happen.

    God bless.

wasn't the government aware that something like this was going to happen?
And now as we enter upon the anniversary of 9/11 I am convinced that something else is going to happen...
Does anyone realize how big china & russia are?
Speaking about rights... Anyone aware of the patriot act... Need I say more?
I wonder if he (pres by supreme court) will allow us to have an election? I won't be surprised if the pres elections are not stopped due to war!
    2 more years... it's a frightening time!

I think we are tougher than we look, that is what got us in trouble, certain elements do not realize our strengths. Democracy does not reside in buildings. You can knock over buildings and kill us till the end of time. As long as there are three of us left we will get together and have elections and try to live according to rule of law. The only thing that can destroys us is us.

    Beautiful post Sleepyeyes.

As I think back to 9/11, I try not to run with the evil-government paranoid-delusion groupthink and instead reflect on what we have as a result of our government; freedoms and absence of anarchy that might prevail had 9/11 been successful on a larger scale.

And for that, I am thankful.

Yes, the government was aware...in the LAST administration....while Billy Bob was smoking cigars with the interns, UBL slipped thru our fingers again and hence...9-11...l, for one am thankful we have a President who is not afraid to buck political correctness and stand up and defend the USA...LR

The nuclear missile ain't so far out of wack....plenty of missile sites around the Georgia and Ubekistan regions, India, Pakistan.

Suzy K you're right to be appreciative.

Sleepyeyes, good point, the first step we might all take is realizing what could have been and realizing just how much we take for granted.

Lrae, I'm with ya, how long can any country run on autopilot?

Nursegoodguy. I cannot remember from govt class (shameful I know) what the procession of leadership is. Pres, VP, Speaker of the House, Secretary of State, not sure where the Supreme Court Justice comes in...somewhere around Marshall law I guess.

They don't have the logistical support to conquer us anyway, they just want to kill us....simple.

Underlying point here though, very important, and adds to Sleepyeyes' message. I have openly disagreed with the concept that the PA jet was comandeered, I believe it was shot down...by our military to avoid the government from being wiped out. But if political consensus is correct and it was comandeered that means that civilians did all the fighting. Which begs for the very awful question.....just where the dickens was our military? Especially if there had been 5 jets? 7? 10? Loaded with Anthrax spores? Or something worse? Can we assume none of them would have been intercepted?

    We have become too complacent.

    hi kids...
please note, this was written by a very tormented barbara, so... just understand that my views are contriversial.... it happens...

hmm... you posed... how would your neighborhood look...

well.... lemmie put it like this... it smells like death... (maybe its just still in my head... i do need verification by other New Yorkers)

hmm.... a 17 acre gaping hole... the worlds largest gutpile... (gee... the dust... I only wonder how many PEOPLE I've breathed in...)

anyhoo... dont mind me sounding jaded.... its just that I am...

lets see... Government... well... we had some phenominal government at that point... (forgive my political statements here) We had Rudy and Pataki... now... switched to buisnessman eternal right in the middle... but, thats fine... and now, to change the other-- the person who actually knows whats going on up there...

*sigh... politics.... honestly, Its a joke, one way or the other... its no better than the old aristocracys.... he who has the most money will prevail.... and, if you dont think it is true... well... gee.... I'm willing to debate.. tell me the last time a pauper held a post of power??? oh wait... I can tell you....NEVER... the united states of anarchist america.... never happen... or will it... or is it already there?

    hmm....

I've made it a vow NOT to go into manhattan wedensday... why.... because I still hurt, and I just dont want to deal with the reality of it all... it'll be a day that I'm gonna crawl into my bed, pull the covers over my head, and hide.
    and, ya know what...
    thats fine...
It'll work... life goes on, I guess...
(forgive the little tangent... I'm now going to re-read the original post again.. one moment, por favor)

    lets see...
hmm... pain and exhaustion a pleasant barbara doesnt make...

To see people who's lives have ENDED.... to see that entire familys have STOPPED...

I am thankful because I found all my friends and family that day...
I am sad because so many people i know did not get the good phonecalls that day...
I am sad because every day I have to travel up church street....
I am sad because on a foggy day on the ferry boat, you can forget the massacre, until... until you get off the ******* boat, and its still a giant gray BATHTUB full of dust of the people I was riding the boat with the week before the attacks...
I am ANGRY to see the tourists on the bus going on and on about how they are going to 'Do' ground zero.... jeez... how can you Do it.... hmm... are you going to gawk and oggle at the construction workers.... are you going to exclaim 'oh my god, how horrible, then snap smiling pictures in front of the Trinity Church???!?!?!?!?!
Gee--- ok kids.. get together... big smile...
    You gotta be kidding me...

ok... before I get myself in any more trouble... I'm gonna go to sleep... and if anyone wants to rag on me... please feel free to IM... (no need to clog the board if ya'll get mad at me)

kids... goodnight.... sleep well.... we all need it..
with the greatest hope tomorrow will come

Bush was hanging around for almost 9 months before this happened....

Airports had shoddy security because it would cost too much to federalize the security. A friend of mine used to do that and made less than i did at Wal-mart....

Our government *could* have prevented this but didn't...doesn't matter which president was where and when. MANY factors caused/let the attack prevail....not one guy who happens to be high up in the public eye...

I'll be remembering the same way I did on that sad day...praying for the victims and thanking God my boyfriend and three best friends (all flight attendants) were safe and sound.

Our biggest hope now is that nothing like this is ever allowed to happen again.

    Good Gosh Yeti,

The most heart wrenching anguish I've ever read. Say anything you want however you want whenever you want. You surely have more to say based on pure experience and I cannot add or detract from it.

I very sincerely thank you for the post and wish there was something I could do to ease your distress.

A thought I have been having is, how different are americans in their outlook that a year ago? Are people more on edge.... are they more defensive and protectioninst, on personal and national levels.... are people less tolerant and accepting of a dissenting view....

They call it "terrorism" for a reason. I wondered if maybe the attacks DID succeed in some ways. Making people live their lives differently out of fear. Causing the government to take different actions in response to that fear....

Just a somber thought I had.
