I'm going to Graceland...

  1. Ok, so in my infinite wisdom, I've convinced my better half to take me to Memphis to celebrate graduation. I've always wanted to go to Graceland... and last night she was looking around at the suites and specials at the Heartbreak Hotel.

I'm so excited! So following Kristy's lead... anyone from Memphis? Been there? Where's a good place to stay? Things to do outside of Graceland? I know we'll be there during the southern food festival part of Memphis in may and that'll be cool (all the grits and catfish you can eat...!). Any input?

I've never been ANYwhere in Tennessee, so this will be interesting. We're planning on driving there... its about 15 hours. Help a sistah out!

I went to Tenneseee a few years back (missed Graceland, I'll go visit after Elvis dies) and it's a beautiful state!
Green and rolling hills and old tobacco farms.
    Have fun.-Russell

The Rendesvous Restaurant is famous for its barbeque--and the service is truly outstanding.

You can go on an evening dinner riverboat cruise--lots of fun. I'm sure there are also day time cruises if you prefer.

Go to the Peabody-you can have afternoon tea and watch the ducks march--very touristy, but after all, you will be a tourist!
    Quack, quack!

(this site also has links to other Memphis attractions)

Beale Street is lots of fun--the Boogie Blues Club and BB Kings are good ones--but be careful and keep your hands on your purse-the place is wild after dark!

There is a river park, you can walk along the river, or just sit and watch the boats go by.

    I know you'll have a wonderful time!

I went there 2 years ago. I second Beale street. YOu have to eat on that street and stop by the Peabody. Don't be too excited about Graceland though. I was dissapointed about how normal it was and highly overpriced.

I second staying at the Peabody if you can afford to. If you can't, get a plain ole hotel of whatever variety that is NOT in the south Memphis area--east/northeast is best.

Things to do--go to the zoo! The pandas will be here, public display starts April 25.
Beale Street as mentioned...it's fun. Especially if you enjoy blues music. During the day, take a walk through downtown--there's some pretty cool stuff to see.
The Pink Palace is a neat place

    Also check out http://www.memphistravel.com/
They have a lot of info about places to go. Click the "things to do" link that's at the bottom of the page.
Mud island is cool if you will be here when they reopen for spring:

Hope you have a great visit!

    Man! I wanna go!!!!!

Big Elvis fan here. Met his step-brother once...that's as close as I've ever gotten.

My folks went to Memphis a couple times. They highly recommend going to Corky's for BBQ. They liked it so much they had some FedEx'd up to Ohio for a party they threw once! :chuckle

listen to the song by marc cohn, "walking in memphis". " saw the ghost of elvis on union ave., followed him up to the gates of graceland"....have fun! i'm in tenn., but 8 hours from memphis, on the northest side of the state. the west end isn't as pretty, kind of flat. tn. is a beautiful state, gets really green here starting in march.
