If you could be anywhere in the world...

  1. Where is your favorite place to be and why?

    I'll go first:
Sometimes I just get homesick for upstate NY in the fall, and my house in the woods....I miss the smell of the wood being cut and I miss the smell of apples, October leaves, and the flutey sound of the bird that used to sing outside my house....and the quiet breeze on a summer day....I lived up on the highest hill in this picture, but this is the best view of the town.

    So what's you favorite place?

September on Cape Cod, MA-- in Eastham, specifically-- Walking the trail on Fort Hill overlooking Nauset Marsh. Crickets chirping, bees buzzing, Redwing Blackbirds calling, Goldenrod and Queen Anne's Lace in the meadow swaying in the gentle ocean breeze... *SIGH* ...Heaven on earth. (We go to the Cape for a week almost every year and the count-down is on till we arrive on Labor Day! )

Here's a small photo at a site to show a little of what I've described:

This is a very tough one for me, having been in the USN for 21 yrs afforded me the opportunity to visit 37 countries and a couple of territories.

As I wind down, I can't think of a much nicer place than the Republic of Mauritius to hang my hat. It is a melting pot of many cultures, religions and people from all over the Indian Ocean and South Africa. A heavy French and British influence in the past has made it a great place to find great food, great beer and great wine. And we can't forget the very heavy Creole influence, especially in the food of the area.

It is an island in the Indian Ocean east of Madagascar, great climate, if you like tropical. Some of the best ocean fishing in the world, miles of beautiful beaches......... just a really nice place to escape the hustle and bustle of what has become western civilization.

Now, if you want to know where not to go.......stay very far away from Somalia!!

WOW...RN-PA and Bob! Both places are simply breathtaking! It's amazing how many beautiful places there are in the world to visit! Thanks for sharing those sites, I really enjoyed the scenery.

One of my favorite places to visit is Carlsbad Beach in Carlsbad, CA. I love the ocean, and have so many wonderful relaxing memories from that place.

Bob, we are a military family, and we have lived in many beautiful places, but one place in particular that I loved was Germany, especially Augsburg. Nice place to live and raise kids, too.

Well, I really enjoyed the beaches of NC and SC. Went to Myrtle Beach, SC for our Honeymoon 3 yrs ago. It was great!!! Took a road trip one weekend to Carolina Beach, North Carolina 4 years ago! Enjoyed that too! Oh, how I wish I could convince hubby to move South!

What a wonderful description you gave Sleepyeyes! I'm from WNY, so I can picture exactly what you're talking about.. mmmm. ...yeah I could easily see it...

But I have seen so much beauty in the world...also former military...who got Medivaced out once going to the Phillipines, Okinonwa, Guam, Japan, Hawaii...and then put on the wrong plane going overseas...ending up in several places I wasn't even supposed to have gone to...:chuckle. But they were beautiful. One place in particular was Korea...as I played basketball for 2nd Infantry division...during my time there...I got to see a lot of the country...and it was breathtaking! I have always wanted to go back...and to see how it is now. Not the inner cities...but the countryside...awesome... I would also love to go to Ireland..or Alaska....because some of the pics I have seen of the country side...take my breath away! But even in the good ole USA..I have seen beauty...that has almost frozen me in my tracks....unable to move for a time...because the beauty I saw...just took hold of my mind...and everything just disappeared for a few secs.

Argh, I feel so sheltered! :chuckle
I've never been out of the good USA, but of all the states I've visited, New York and Colorado are my favorites. Sleepyeyes, what you describe here is exactly the type of place I would love to live in. I want to live in a place that actually goes through all seasons instead luke-warm, warm, hot and stiffling aka Texas.

But nursejws, I'm sure you enjoy it when you see them having to dig out from under their latest 12inches or so of snow... I lived in WNY until I was old enough to leave...and when my mother passed...the only time I want to be there is in the autumn....and that is not nearly enough to get me back there to live.. VISIT...have a cabin there...yes...but not live!

You mean when you were SMART enought to leave. WNY sux, sux, sux. But I digress.

Anywho the happiest place on earth for me is Myrtle Beach, tons of golf courses, great restaurents, little to know taxes, very affordable housing, they build stuff besides empty strip malls. Pretty much the exat oppisite of this hell hole I'm trapped in.

    Brownie,

What's snow? :chuckle :chuckle Is that like ice?

I forgot about the snow! Where on earth am I going to find the perfect place to live for ME?!?!?!?

Ask Kewlnurse and listen when Kewlnurse says "WNY sux, sux, sux. " Because I'm from the same place :chuckle.

Naw ..well it was a good place to grow up in, and I felt I got a great education, but the snow suxs bigtimie!! You shovel to get into yoiur driveway, and then shovel to get out your driveway. You have to start warming up your car thirty mins before you're ready to leave...at LEAST!! You have to clean the car off...pour water on the windows and door knobs...to un freeze them...and don't stay more than 30 mins in a store...because then you have to do the whole thing all over AGAIN!! SUXs! During one of the blizzards...they had to go over to my sister's house and dig her OUT!!! She couldn't open the door because of all the snow that had fell...or the windows for that matter She now lives in Stone Mountain, GA outside Hotlanta..
