If I had a hammer...

  1. OK, make that ANY tools of the trade, I'd love to build and refinish wood furniture. There's something about the feel and glow of wood that speaks to me, and I enjoy finding old treasures consigned to yard sales and second-hand shops that I just know have a history hidden in them. Someday, when I'm not confined to a small apartment, I'm gonna do some serious learning (and hopefully no serious damage!)

If time and money were no issue, what would YOU do with your hammer? And before anyone says it, you can hammer any ol' time of day you like.

If I had a hammer...and I could actually build something (which my spouse can not build worth a hill of beans and freely admits to such ) I would build myself a nice deck with a nice deck, half enclosed to enjoy the sunny warmth during winter and the other half to enjoy during warm months....then I would put an addition on my home....but I will continue to keep dreaming......*sigh* lol lol

"If I had a hammer. . . I'd hammer in the something, something. . .I hammer in the something, something. . . all over this something something. . ."

    Really bad with lyrics. . . .

Seriously, I don't do hammers. Hurts my thumb way too much!

I hire people who own hammers! :chuckle

    Cheers!

I'd start knocking down walls. My poor kitchen only has ONE window and that one is teeny weeny. I want either a huge bank of windows or something like a sunroom added.....I've threatened to just that several times.

That's why God made carpenters! They hammer in morning, they hammer in the evening, all over this land because they make a good dollar so I hear if they're in the union!

    ats,
I looooove refinishing furniture. What really gets me is why some people paint beautiful wooden furniture. I found a georgeous oak dresser someone set outside for the garbagemen and it was painted at least five different colors. One way to tell if it's a good piece of furniture, is to check the joints on the inside of the drawers. If it's dovetailed, it's a good piece, but you may already know that. The one I found had scalloped joints, an even better find. Happy hunting!

    If I had a hammer
    I'd hammer in the morning
I'd hammer in the evening ... all over this land,
    I'd hammer out danger
    I'd hammer out a warning
I'd hammer out love between all of my brothers and my sisters
    All over this land.

    If I had a bell
I'd ring it in the morning
I'd ring it in the evening ... all over this land,
    I'd ring out danger
    I'd ring out a warning
I'd ring out love between all of my brothers and my sisters
    All over this land.

    If I had a song
I'd sing it in the morning
I'd sing it in the evening ... all over this world,
    I'd sing out danger
    I'd sing out a warning
I'd sing out love between all of my brothers and my sisters
    All over this land.

    If I've got a hammer
    And I've got a bell
And I've got a song to sing ... all over this land,
    It's a hammer of justice
    It's a bell of freedom
It's a song about love between all of my brothers and my sisters
    All over this land.

reminds me of that song "..hammer and a nail"..forgot who it is by..some chick group.

If I had a hammer, I'd build a new house. A new hammer, of course, since I've used the old one repairing this old thing.

ATS, I understand that satisfaction from refinishing old furniture. I am afraid I am rather impatient with the process, but I do love the character of quality old pieces. We have quite a few furniture items that are family hand me downs that are older than I am.

Christie, I have the same dream. I would love a summer deck/porch and an addition. I would particularly like it to be off the second floor. I love that feeling of looking out over things.

We had our bathroom floor redone by this woman, just a little 5'2" gal and she did such wonderful quality work. I want to be like her.

Willing to lend the fine collection gathering dust in my catchall closet or in our garrage if need be.

Now my meat hammer works well on pounding those thick chicken breasts---good way to get frustrations out along with tenderizing meat.
