I would REALLY like your opinion on this poem that I just wrote. Be honest please :)

  1. Do You Have What it Takes To Care?

Do you ever wonder, why "Care" is such a small word?
    It's message is so meaningful.
When you care, and you know it, it makes you feel wonderful.

It takes certain people to care.
Caring is much tougher than you may think!
    Do you Dare
    To care?

It takes a good heart to care
When your resident has so many stories to share.
You can barely make out the story
But listening to them with a smile
    Will give them great glory,
Even though you can only stay a little while.

It takes an even-tempered person to care.
When you are doing the best you can conserve
Someone says that you are no good
And treat you in a way that you don't deserve.
You feel like being in a bad mood
But you can't be, for they depend on you.

It takes a strong heart to care
For the ones who have shared to you their stories
    And their lives glories.
    After they Passed away.
You will be glad that they are in a better place
But in your hearts, the memories will forever stay.

It takes a sense of "Letting Go" to care
When you come to work and see an empty bed
Of a patient who was just fine yesterday, but find out in report that they were dead.
No longer in the nursing home
Is the one who you were so attached to.
You hope that she didn't die alone.
    On it you may dwell
    Wishing you were there
But there are other patients who are also not well
And you must go and give them the best care.

    It takes patience to care
When your confused patient is in a hurry to get out the door
    And this you cannot ignore!
She is determined to get home
    But aren't we all
But we cant let her go, because we all know that she will roam.
We are only preventing a fall
No one needs any more pain.

    It takes pride to care
You must be proud of what your self
When you put everything on your mind on a shelf
To sit with a resident who's next breath could be their last
You have watched them struggle through their pain
    You knew their past
You realize that their loss would also be their gain
She tells you that she has no fear
She tells you that she has done her work on this earth
    Still, you shed a tear
Her life was one of worth.

Most of all, you must have confidence to care
You must know that you are in the right field
Caring is sometimes the hardest thing to do
If you really care, then never yield
    Caring is not for everyone
Its so much harder than it sounds to care
    For anyone
    Do you dare to care?

Yes! Even try this.. section off a part of a bulletin board with tape and label it "Poetry/Haiku/Etc. Corner -- anyone, please post yours!" I ran a haiku contest at work once and we had great fun.

I too printed it out. We post great stuff like yours on our medroom doors and in the lounges. I'll also make copies for our CNA teacher, and for school.
