I think I hit a new low......

  1. Okay....so my DH and I got an X Box for our kids when it first came out. It was cool to watch our kids play, and although my 4 year old son is addicted to it, I wasn't regretting buying the thing (I had doubts initially, I mean, what's wrong with playing "make believe"?)

    Here's the problem.

Now my DH and I are totally addicted to playing Halo. I'm sure some of you know the game, but it's basically fighting aliens with really cool guns and rifles and stuff (okay, so I'm not PC when it comes to guns). We were obsessed.....coming up with tatics, ignoring our kids (but Mommy, we're HUNGRY!!), and forget about a sex life.....who needs it? WE HAVE HALO!!

Well, we finally finished the whole game. We were ecstatic, we were thrilled......now we're bored. It was so much better when we didn't actually have to talk to one another....just shout "You get the alien on the left while I snipe the one on the cliff!!"

We are a truly pathetic married couple. :imbar

The kids got the X Box back, and Halo 2 isn't coming out for a while. I guess it's back to watching the Fox News channel for us. Or is it.....?

My son just deleted all the memory from the game.....now we have to start all over to get access to all the levels.....

Halo....here we come! There's just something so satisfying about shooting things, esp. after a hard night at work or a rough day with the kids.

    Someone help me!

We play Unreal Tournament. We have several computers in our house and hubby has them all linked together. We play teams too. Hubby will say "You better not think your getting away with shooting my wife" and then he'll say "honey I avenged you." We have been known to get to playing and not eat dinner until 8pm. Kids play with us though so it doesn't bother them. :chuckle

I'll admit - I love video games. Okay, okay, so maybe I'm also a big, immature nerd. LOL

I spent nearly an hour playing the kids Finding Nemo PC game the other night (we don't have a game system, but maybe we'll get one sometime soon...)

I totally understand unwinding by smashing/fighting/hitting things in video games. I am a 24 (very soon 25) year old woman who is addicted to them. All the Zelda ones are my favorite- my boyfriend bought the gamecube system a while back and I've outnumbered him in terms of playing hours about a zillion to one. It's okay, though, because he's addicted to Buffy just as much as I am to ninentdo, so we weirdly balance each other out in that way.

unreal, ultima, preditor, halo.... *sigh...I was at a convention last weekend... I avoided the computers, as the people playing were mostly kids, who all kicked my butt... came in next to last in the tourney... lol... I met the winner of last time's tourney's dad when I was painting miniatures... nice guy...

if you want some competition on a LAN when you play those games, try out a gaming convention...theres so many of them...

sometimes a little competition is a good thing it makes it more fun! (esp, if you think you're the best)

ok, I'm out to play around... er... blow up something on screen... I'm addicted to Dungeon Keeper II..... its not a FPS... but, its not too bad! (you play the bad guy!)

Responding to the "problem," I would say if you turn this around, you will see that you and DH are in luck! You have discovered that you can still play, get lost in that play, and still be with each other. You were enjoying yourselves, together!

See if there are other activities that you might enjoy as well. A friend and her BF discovered "frisbee golf" (apparently also called "disc golf"). Another one and his DW play volleyball.

I hope you see that this is not a problem! You just have to find another activity for that part of you that "woke up" with the Halo game. Some couples lack that part.... :imbar

    Have fun!
