i saw the news today oh boy

  1. i watched live footage from an auto accident taken by the live chopper 11. they showed a white car all smashed to bits from the air. they told us the driver of that car was dead on arrival.

now wouldnt that be nice if you were waiting for your husband to come home from work and saw his car like that on tv? what a way to learn something like that.

i think the news should be a little more responsible than that. i dont think any of us would have missed seeing that accident scene.

I agree with you thisnurse. Very typical for channel 11 if you live in PGH.

I agree with the lack of human compassion in the delivery of "live newscasts" . Saw a news clip several years ago in which a life-flight 'copter crashed into a utility pole...and the station kept re-playing the clip. I was flabberghasted and very angry on behalf of not only the crew (all died),but their families and co-workers as well.
At some point in time, our society became obsessed with live reports, regardless of whom they hurt. Since I am an "EAGLES" fan,it brings to mind their song " Dirty Laundry"...
Sad commentary on "news" reporting, but very accurate.

I also take issue with news stories that show dead bodies, even a few years after the crime. A family member could be watching a documentary and then get a glimpse of police photos or newsclips that weren't shown at the time and never have the chance to turn the TV off. I don't think we need to see the bodies.

Heck, they usually describe what happened, I don't WANT to think of someone lying there on camera. There is no dignity for the dead in this culture.

and they did it again this morning with another accident. i wish choppper 11 would permanently run out of gas or something.
you bring up a good point about the bodies canoe. i had a very good friend who was murdered at work. shot in the head.
i cant tell you how many times i watched that stretcher come out of his shop. all during the investigation, all during the trial, and every single time the murderer is mentioned they show pats body being taken out. as much as this pains me, i can just imagine the hurt of his mom and sisters.
i dont need or want to see this ****

The thing that gets to me is the way they have been blasting unfounded allegations about the dead. A man charged with murdering a woman and her two daughters says he went there to buy drugs. A young woman stomped to death by a friend and the friend says she did it because of homosexual advances. That man that died in car wreck yesterday is made to look at fault because they say he made illegal left handed turn. None of these allegations are ever backed up but in the mind of the public the deceased is guilty. I feel really sorry for the families.

I agree with you. But , as you all know it sells. Do you remember years back when BUd Dreyer, a politican I believe, was live on Television and litterally put the barrel of the gun in his mouth and pulled the trigger. All you saw on channel 11 was the back portion of his head (occipital) flip up and then red blood on the wall behind him and then he fell to the floor. This was live event. Even though this station was blasted for this filming, they were also bombarded with tlelphone calls from the public to see that again. YUK! It sells! I wonder how many people who are in our profession and the EMS, really are in it for the blood and guts? And maybe a little adrenaline rush.....

A few years back, a severed head was found in the Dayton, OH area.... yep, you guessed it. Channel 7 wrapped it up around the neck and televised it, in case anyone could ID her. Sometimes you don't know if you should laugh or cry.

I can't stand it when someone has just died either by accident or by murder, or a child is missing, and the news crew has the audacity to ask them how they feel and stick that mike right up close to get the "perfect shot." Wonder how any of them would feel if the situation was reversed and it was THEIR family or friend who was the potential or real victim. I think they wouldn't exactly understand or CARE that its news....AND I get the same sick feeling EVERY time I see a clip of the planes crashing into the world trade towers. Somehow, for an instant before it happens, in my mind all those people are alive and terrified, and it happens over and over again. How sad for everyone but especially their families and loved ones...
