I Love America

  1. This is kinda a take off of an off-topic thread, how about we all name just one thing we love about America and being American, I'll go first........
I love the freedoms that I enjoy and sometimes take for granted, I love the diversity that is America, I love the fact that we are free to speak our opions even when they do not agree with mainstream, the fact that we are free to explore our minds and hearts, to debate to love and to live, the fact that we can demand and help to change policy without fear for our lives,
The facts I cherish each and every day, I know I am feeling kinda sentimental here, but hey it my right haha
    love to all,

with freedom of speach, right to bear arms and all the other wonderful rights that Americans can enjoy and live without fear of being persucuted or to be killed or whatever else in fear of saying what we want to , any dawg gone time we want to.

The United States is the land of opportunity, and second opportunity, etc. At 18, my parents would have paid for my college. Like many 18 year olds, I blew it. Joined the Army, and spent the next 14 years traveling around the world, till I blew my knee beyond redemption. Got out, went back to college (and yes, there are countries where you just would not get that opportunity). Got my RN, three years in an ICU, and back to college, masters, and am now a CRNA.

I really believe with hard work, determination and some degree of talent, you can do anything you want to here. And tomorrow, if I feel like it, I can get up, call in for good, and start a whole new career.

Freedom is such an all encompassing word, sometimes we don't pause to think what it really means. I wouldn't want my children growing up anywhere else.

My vote is that as a woman, there aren't many better countries. Can you imagine living as a woman in Afghanistan or Nigeria or the Sudan?

The generosity of the American heart is unequalled.. well.. perhaps Australia draws a close second. The heart of the PEOPLE is good. I often question the politics, the corruption of those in power (political or financial) but the heart of the PEOPLE is a good heart. I love how we can fuss and fight and scratch each others' eyes out about the most trivial things..yet when the chips are down, we stand as one family. All past personal offenses forgotten and onto the business at hand...as ONE nation.
Corruption and greed is found in ALL nations, all countries, and we too, have our shame. But nonetheless, we are a GIVING people. Not only of our money, but of our time, our energy, and our heart. Yet we must be careful of pride... Pride comes before a fall.

I love America because I can go to a supermarket and purchase any type of food, vegetable or fruit I want. There are no rations here!

I love America because I can go to any movie, theater, event, and watch any news channel, listen to any radio station I want, and I can surf the internet freely because there is no censorship here!

I love America, because I have a choice of wheather I want to drive my own car, walk, take public transportation, to any destination I want... IT is my choice, not the goverments lack of choices and travel restrictions.

I love America because my husband and I can decide how many children we want....not how many my goverment will allow!

I love America because with hard work and dedication.... I can make my dreams come true...my goverment can not limit how big my wealth will grow, what my career will be, I buy my own house and I decide where I want to live!

I love America because I can disagree with our leaders out loud and not fear retialiation for my views, opinions or remarks.

I love America because my children can have a magical childhood....not a childhood filled with needs, desires..hunger, cold, or pain

I Love America because if I am sick I have can go to a Doctor, I can get a second opinion, I can get my prescription filled, I can buy tylenol, cough medicine,, and self medicate myself...

My father returned to Cuba last year for a visit.. He left Cuba in the early 1950's prior to Fidel Castro military coup!

When he returned he was physically sick, he was so depressed it made him ill!!! He made me appreciate how much I have here.. and how lucky I am....

I love America because it is the most beautiful country in the world. We have it all; moutains, bare, or verdant, plains, desert, rich farmland. Beautiful coastlines, gorgeous parks, rustic little small towns, smoggy big cities. Rich people, poor people, and all income levels in between. We live in houses, condos, apartments, shacks, cardboard boxes, and under bridges. We (most of us) eat what we want, when we want. If we want to use electricity or the telephone, you pay for it-its yours. Banks finance houses, cars, boats, RV's, 4 -wheelers, motorcycles, you name it. We can go to church anywhere we want as often, or as little, as we choose.

Until 9/11, we had no real reason to feel fear in our everyday lives. About the time we got that feeling under control, another weirdo with a gun (in this great country, law abiding people can own guns. Weirdos often have more of them!), decides to ruin the lives of innocent people. It makes me sad that this great country that I love has been hit from behind by a sucker punch, and kicked in the knees by that sniper. What will it take to regain the 'everyday' peace of mind that we had before 9/11?

Cathyw, that can of worms is open, and no way it`s ever going to get closed..........our pre 9/11 life is gone......sad, but true.........
    that said....
I love America because we open our arms to the rest of the world.......Many.many of our ancestors struggle and suffered to come here......On one side I`m DAr, the other side is 2 generations off the boat.....And this is good......We enjoy a standard of living unriveled in the world....we enjoy a lifestyle that is uncomprehensible to mane people.......We are generous, but sometimes need a prod to remember that......we are not perfect, but we are..americans........and proud of it......

To me this sums up America and why I love her:

I may not agree with what you say but I will defend your right to say it to the last drop of my blood.

    plain and simple freedom.
