I know this is off topic, but just wanting input

  1. Hey all,

Why is that in some recreational or things we do for enjoyment, other people see a need to badmouth out likes as though they are wrong and immoral. Take for instance, people's taste in music. I have been blasted, and any other word you choose about my like for 80's rock, techno, and other forms of music I like. That really pisses me off. I can understand if someone is polite about telling me that dont like my music..... but dont be an a%*^&^ about it.

Thanks all, I needed a place to vent. Feel free to take my poll on your favorite type of music too

    Like, hair band 80's rock?

Dude, did you see the pic? Where the h*ll did I post that?

Anyways, I listen to so much. Mostly rock/alternative. Puddle of Mudd, Nickleback, Dashboard COnfessional, etc. And then my girlie music. Sarah McLachlan, Sheryl Crow, Esthero, Ani Difranco, etc.

But I'll admit I still have a soft spot for that 80's music.

Don't let people knock you for what you listen to Nick. Not cool. Variety is the spice of life, and people that think otherwise aren't worth even listening to

BTW - there are a few threads about music in the off topic forum. Have you visited there? You'd get a bigger audience if you posted these types of questions there. Just a suggestion!

OK, I voted for "Rock" but in actuality I listen to practically anything... aside from the most violent, misogynist forms of Rap.

Being born in the '60s... I do have a soft spot for the music of my own era... The Eagles (just say em this May), Lynyrd Skynyrd (seen em 5 times), Allman Bros., ELO and the like. But, having a 23 year old son and a 14 year old daughter , I have plenty of occasions to listen to everything under the sun. Blessedly, my children really like my music too... my son has seen Skynyrd with me twice and my daughter once...

What gets me are the "music snobs" who feel theirs is the only REAL music... We have a kid at work who is into Blues and Jazz... condescendingly calling Rock "the child/grandchild of Blues".... whatevah.. Music is an art... and we aren't all obligated to appreciate the same forms of art... but be thankful to have the freedom to choose.

    Rock On!!

Hi Nick...no one should be badmouthed for their personal taste in music. I personally like Kenny G and a few other talented smooth jazz artists. I don't like to say I like Jazz...that's too big a window...I don't like ALL jazz artists style of jazz which is why I say this. Other jazz artists I like are Boney James, Paul Hardcastle, Rick Braun, Wayman Tisdale, and Najee... If a jazz artist plays like these guys, then I love their style.

To each his own...that's what you should say to those who badmouth your taste in music.

I went on a dinner date with a guy once who played country music the entire time in his truck. At the end of the date, he said it didn't dawn on him that I might not like country music. I told him that the reason I didn't say anything is because he was sharing "his world of taste" with me on that date, and I had a great time with him as I was getting to know "Him". That's what is meant by embracing a person's culture and who they are. If we can't do this with one another, we miss a blessing along the way, and lose out on getting to truly know one another.

My husband loves rap...sometimes raunchy rap music...which - PERSONALLY - I CAN'T STAND! However...I married the man and all that he is I accept. We compromise with one another's taste in music...He loves jazz too, so no problem with him listening to my music. I can BE TOLERANT with the Rap as long as he plays the "clean rap songs" aloud, otherwise, he dons the earphones for his listening pleasure.

I agree with what every one has said. I also like all kinds of music, EXCEPT some Country, and RAP!!! However...What really gets me...is the person who is in their car, and thinks everyone else should enjoy the music their playing with them...GRR!!

The kind of music I enjoy hearing...depends on my mood...but I really enjoy the oldies...and this music can help me get in the best moods...no matter what is happening around me!!! I also enjoy different forms of Jazz and classical music...more as a relaxer...and
a way to unwind. I like many of the new country artists...and some old ones too...just not the twany ones...if you get my meaning..:chuckle. I like them because they tell a story, and many times.....are about surviving ...whatever the situation is...!

Anywho...Music is a personal thing...and everyone has their own likes and dislikes. I alway say to each his/her own...just don't make me listen to yours...while you're sitting next to me at the light..

I like country, soft rock, easy listening, opera. I bought a really nice CD for children It's called Beethoven's Wig. It is a childrens tape that teaches them classical music. it has very funny words to all the popular classical pieces.

Some of the words to the first song :" Beethoven Wig, It's very big. It's long and curly and it's white. He takes it off when he sleeps at night, because it's big,it's really big, Beethoven's Wig, is ,big......"Some are quite funny. Gilda

Some of my favorite Country artists are Shania Twain, Faith Hill, Leanne Rhimes, Dixie Chicks, Dolly Parton, and others. I don't like the twangy country music, but I do appreciate many Country artists who are wonderfully gifted with song.
