I just bought a BRAND NEW computer

  1. I always buy things used if possible; and have bought several computers through the years from eBay. I have had good luck with them usually; they have met my needs but may have been slower than a new one.

And I have always had Macs here at home; originally because that is what the kids had at school, but then because I LIKED them! They have always made sense to me; and I AM the one who managed to crash the entire hospital system's PCs when we first computerized charting years ago. Besides, my son is one of those Mac fanatics; and he has always encouraged me to stick with Macs if I want computer help.

Over the past 12 years we bought a new Mac 405 as our first computer, and bought several used Macs: a Classic llE, mac 6800, Mac 7200, the first (blueberry?) iMac and then my last one was a graphite iMac-- which I thoroughly loved. HOWEVER, while I was at the ANA convention last summer, my DH watered the plants (which were NOT over the computer, BTW, but rather on a shelf to the left of and higher than the computer) and managed to spill water into my 'puter. So of course it was in the shop and repaired back then. It died again in November and had been at the computer repair shop and we were told the "logic" board (whatever THAT is!) had burnt out. It would have cost about $500+ to repair. For over the past month(+), I've been using my old iMac which couldn't deal with the new features here (such as Live Chat) and it has run excessively slow (since i was comparing it to the graphite iMac).

WELL, Comp USA is having an 18 month no interest, no payment special this week only here, so DH, our son and I went to LOOK at new computers for me (I forgot to mention DH has his own PC with Windows XP--- DON'T even LET me go there!! !!).

I came home with a 15" screen eMac with a superdrive (whatever that is, my son said I'd like it!) 800Mhz PowerPC G4 60Gig, OSX.2 (Jaguar), DVD-R/CD-RW--- anyway, it's big, beautiful, fast, and white! My son convinced me to buy this instead of the iMac G4 (with the adjustable flat panel monitor because it's cheaper and he figures that it would serve his momma very weel for another 10+ years.

Now, I'm gonna learn how to do iPhoto and other stuff like that and I should soon be posting my own atavar here! (give me some time to learn how, okay?).

I'm so happy I'm doing my happy dance all over!

I got a new Dell right after Christmas. I'm still playing with it and can't seem to figure out the photo stuff yet. I'll have more time in the summer to play with it. I think this is just going to take time.

Believe it or not; all of my old computers are still being used: the first one is part of some sort of a network of my son's friend; the second one is being used by son'd girlfriends' 8 yr old nephew; the 3rd one is being used by the youngest Aunt, and the 7200 and the blueberry iMac are used by my son for his network. He's removed the hard drive and CD-RW from the graphite iMac and plans to put them in the blueberry iMac and we will sell the monitor part to another of his friends. These young computer geeks take stuff that the rest of us would junk and they manage to hook them up together and make some strange-looking but powerful computers out of them....

I AM having so much fun! I've found a new browser, played an iMovie, and am thinking it is soon gonna be time to open up the online training program I got for Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Macromedia, etc. (But then again, I may wait a little longer until I'm alone so I can concentrate better on this stuff.

BTW, this isn't a smilie, this is ME!!!>>>

Jenny P, your son sounds like my boyfriend. Always doing something with computers, I bet they'd get along great!

My boyfriend started a computer forum that your son might be interested in, it has information about hardware, software, Macs, HTML coding, Networking, Operating Systems, etc...

The site will be down temporarily for about 24-48 hours because hunny is switching web page providers.

Thanks, Kristi; I'll let him know about that website. Did I mention that he is in college to be a computer programmer and is currently carrying a 4.0? (not that I'm bragging or anything....
