I had an awesome weekend!

  1. And you're not gonna believe it, but I was at work! I worked 12's both days, and I can honestly say I have never had 2 better days at work!

You know, those days where you love all your patients, and they love you too! The patients that hug you at the end of the day, that beg you to stay another shift, that introduce you to their visitors by your first name. The ones that ask you to have your pic taken holding their new baby before they leave. ALL of my patients were like that this weekend.

Lately we've had some new members here, and they've seen (and commented on) some of the negativity here. It's par for the course in nursing, I know. But, I just wanted to share this good nursing story today. It's days like these that make all the bad parts seem insignificant, and make me really enjoy what I do!

Of course, it'll probably suck royally when I go back on Thursday! But for now....

    Thanks for letting me share!

I can't believe you posted this, Heather, because I had the same type of weekend! I never pick up extra time but I agreed to work 4 hours, 3-7p, on Friday evening and then worked my regular 3-11 Saturday and Sunday. Because we have 8 hour mixed with 12 hour shifts, you never know if you'll get the same patients, but by some miracle, I had the same group each night. They were some of the BEST and NICEST patients in a long time, complimenting me left and right-- a real love-fest , friendly families, partial to self-care, not terribly ill, and what I love: getting to care for a patient from fresh post-op to near discharge-- a lap. hysterectomy patient from Friday evening-- seeing her progress and healing was so rewarding! I got off the floor both Saturday AND Sunday for dinner, and don't feel wiped out emotionally and physically as I usually do on my Monday off. I was able to really talk with and do extras for my patients and for the coming night shift nurses. I actually felt like I could do this full-time if the patient load was always like this! (In my dreams...)

I'd had a rough group of patients with many problems last Tuesday and Wednesday on a different team on our Med-Surg floor where I'm often assigned where our sickest patients are in mostly single rooms-- complete cares, confused, heavy wound care, isolation for contact or respiratory precautions, etc. etc., so this weekend was a special treat-- Glad yours was too!

Hey RN-PA! At lunch on Sunday, I was telling one of my coworkers just how splendidly my day was going, and she then kept making references all day to "Heather's little love fest!"

Glad you had a great weekend too!
