I gotta stay off these political threads.....

  1. I don't know about anyone else, but these things are getting waaaaaaaay too hot for me to handle. I'm thoroughly disgusted with modern politics anyway, and then when I come here to relax.......what do I do but click on those damned Current Events threads and get pissed off all over again at the intellectual myopia, the meanness, and the utter contempt some posters show those who disagree with them?

Enough, I say........let's talk about something OTHER than politics now. How about what's going on in our personal lives, our own "current events"? I'll start:

    1) Oldest daughter and her hubby-to-be have their marriage license and have FINALLY set a wedding date (the 29th of this month).........now, if they can just find someone to perform the ceremony and a place to hold it, they'll be in good shape. Next, they need to move the heck OUT of my house........

    2) Younger daughter graduates from high school June 2, leaves for Army basic training July 13, two days after younger son turns 13. They want to have a big combined birthday/graduation/going away party. I wonder what camouflage balloons will look like next to SpongeBob plates, napkins, wrapping paper and so on.

    3) I've managed to get myself onto a couple of restructuring committees at work, thanks to a nurse-manager who's got me confused with some kind of leader type. JCAHO is coming to our hospital in October, right around the same time I'm going to sit for the ANCC Med/Surg certification exam. I must be nuts.

    4) We're going to lose half of our household in the next few months.......the two girls are leaving the nest, and my sister and BIL are reuniting and will probably get their own place sometime this summer. That means the two boys, my DH, and I will be rattling around the house like four small peas in a very large pod. Hey, does that mean I can turn the downstairs apartment into an exercise studio?

So, what's going on in YOUR lives this spring and summer?

Starting a new job in the middle of June, finally got a good man, starting back at the gym in June.

((And i limit my time and posting at the current events board as well, too much of a peezing contest of the right-and-wrong dept.))

    1) Hubby moved to the other side of the state for his job (he works for a commercial pest control company). I miss him, and it's expensive to maintain two households, but I can't leave my ultra-supportive family here or the nice grant/scholarship package I got offered by the school.

    2) Me - I'm quitting my job in July (only going to work part-time thru June) and starting my first nursing classes July 7th. I'm terrified and excited at the same time. Wish me luck......

    3) Son #1 (5) graduated kindy last week and has already learned to hate school/prefer daycare. Son #2 (2) is growing like a weed and desperately needs to be weaned (but is oh-so-attached to Mom).

So, nothing much really interesting in my life.

Sounds like a super busy summer for you, MJL! Good luck and congratulations on all the birthdays, parties, weddings, graduations..... wow! :hatparty:

Okay, I'll play....but only because I like you so much Marla :kiss

    1. I've been on the optional weekend plan for about a month now and I love it! I have so much more flexibility during the week and I'm off nights for good (which has done wonders for my disposition and sanity).

    2. DH resigned from his awful job and his last day was Friday. Even though this was very unsettling, he is already so much happier and has several good prospects based on the resumes he's sent out. Everyone keep your fingers crossed for us that he gets the job he interviewed for last Friday, because it's local, with a large, established, stable company where he will be paid considerably more than his last job. All the others sound like great jobs, but they would involve either a long commute or us to move to another city.

    3. Junior finishes Montessori kindergarten at the end of this month and is very excited about starting first grade in the fall. He has also completed his hole that he's been digging in our backyard and has happily caught a small frog that is content to live in the water at the bottom of the hole. Ahhh, the simple pleasures of a 6-year-old boy.

    4. Baby number two is due in Sept. We still don't know if it's a he or a she because "little baby" as we call it, likes to keep his/her legs closed at all times. I'm enjoying this pregnancy very much, and aside from my massive size and the fact that it's already in the upper 80's outside, I think it's going to be a nice summer.

Me too. Got to stay out of the political threads too, except to make sure that everyone isn't killing eachother verbally or otherwise. There's 6+ months left until the 2004 election here. I hope that during these next 6+ months we can talk about current event OTHER than just the freakin' election and one candidate over the other. There's a whole world full of Current Events. There're some that may directly effect our lives on a much more personal level.

When I'm in a better frame of mind, I'll share mine. Had a really bad day today. (Everyone has one of those, so I know I'm not alone). I just don't feel like sharing my "current event(s)" at present. Nothing against anyone. Just need to chill out a bit. . . But I'll share like everyone else. . . just a little later.

I really have to stay away from politics here too. Same ole same ole! ARGH! HELP! (Sorry I yelled in advance.) I will not post. I will not post.

    Anyway,...
Things are great with me. My husband spent vacation getting pergo down in LR and DR. Looks great. Had a great MD brunch out with family. My daughter is buying a house and finishing her BA and getting married in the fall to a nice guy who treats her well! I like my fairly new job so far. All is well!

Besides, killing anyone verbally or otherwise, with the weather getting warmer, that would really stink up the summer air.

Okay I will volunteer to go hunting for some alternative news for us!!! In the meantime I am sitting here on a beautiful autumn day next to a solar powered cat- rug that is purring her little head off.

Yeah, there's nothing worse than the odoriferous emanations from a decomposing corpse.........PEEEEEE-YEEEEEEW!

Reminds me of when I was a couple of months' pregnant with my first child. It was Easter Sunday, and DH and I had gotten all dressed up to go to my parents' house and then to church. As we were driving through the countryside, an unspeakable stench began to fill the car as it weaved its noxious path through the air vents; of course, my poor morning-sick stomach revolted, and DH had barely pulled over when my outraged breakfast bolted out the emergency exit. The same thing happened when we drove back home through the same area several hours later; but while vomiting was nothing new, that smell was, and we both wondered what in God's green earth had died out there!

Turned out that the next day, the aroma led authorities to the body of a 55-year-old woman who'd gone missing from one of the local watering holes on New Year's Eve and hadn't been seen since. Her remains were found not six feet from the highway.......and it was obvious from their condition that she'd been out there all that time. I don't think they ever did find out what she died from; I think the final word on that was "death by misadventure".

Now, I guess I got a little off topic---this happened 22 years ago, so it can hardly be called "current events". Anyway, what I originally meant to post was, I moved the furniture around today and created a small exercise studio right off the living room, where all my equipment now lives and can be easily gotten to. Before, I had to fetch everything out of the hall closet, and then I was always getting in the way of anyone who was watching TV; now, I've got my own area and have plenty of room for dance as well.

This new equipment must be pretty effective; I'm actually sore from yesterday's workout, and I haven't been that way since the first couple of weeks after I started exercising. It's certainly not unbearable, but I definitely know which areas got the most work yesterday! Then I went and moved furniture today........well, I'll probably be stuck just doing cardio tomorrow. :chuckle
