I don't know if any of you feel the same way, but I am angry!
I am angry that this happened.
I am angry with those responsible.
BUT, I am VERY ANGRY with some of the reporting on this crime. STOP SHOWING THOSE PEOPLE JUMPING FROM BUILDINGS!!!! Don't they care what a family member must feel while watching this??
This was brought home to me this morning as I watched the mother of the pilot of the plane which hit the second building. How can she bear to see it?
And WHY ARE THEY COMPROMISING THE SECURITY OF THE PRESIDENT???!!! When will they learn to SHUT UP!!! All that needs to be reported is that the president is in a secure location!! Don't provide the location of the secret bunker, that is why it is called secret!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (And this from a person who cried from sadness when GW was elected, but I stand behind this country's president, no matter who he, or she, may be.)
I give Colin Powell a lot of credit when a reporter asked him about intelligence, he said "We should not be discussing US Intelligence on national TV." She tried to re-word it, and he came back with the same answer. TAKE THE HINT!!!!!
Every time there is an incident of terrorism, or when our plane was taken by , forgive me I forget as I am so emotional still, China (?), they had to broadcast that it had top secret technology on board. Well, sure, China probably already knew that, but what if they didn't? Do they think China has no TV's???
Free speech, my a$$! How about exercising some concern for our nation's security??!! Put that above your almighty right to free speech, or this country won't be around for you to HAVE free speech anymore!!!!
Do these journalists have to go to any ethics classes in school or in their training? Do they have to attend sensitivity training? What about a class in good judgement in keeping military secrets and strategies under wraps? If they don't, THEY SHOULD!! I just want us to be safe. This reporting of so many details compromises everyone's safety.
Thanks for letting me get that off my chest, I am raging about some of the things I heard reporters say. Don't get me wrong, I am glad they keep us in touch with what is going on, but they MUST learn to exercise good judgement, for the good of everyone!

I agree that the $$ is driving factor in News TV. You watched, I watched, the world watched and should see what happened and what was done. I also agree that TV news is "sharks" waiting for blood. Secretary of State Powell was correct in not answering. But the comments you made below I do have some concern with.

The right to free speak is ALMIGHTY, thats why is it the first "RIGHT". You were using it when you posted here.
Just my opinion

NO. Let the world see ALL that was done here this day. And let the world know you do not do this to America & get away with it.

You're right Dave. I was feeling overly emotional today, but I feel better now.
I just want TV journalists to report responsibly. Giving the president's exact location when it is trying to be kept a secret is just not responsible. I am trying to say, that maybe they should put the concerns of the nation before the $$ and stop hiding that under the guise of free speech.
Anyway, I want to say, I just drove past my local blood collection center, and there is so much activity, they have the police there to direct traffic. Ambulances are set-up as blood collection centers too. It was a heart-warming site. Too busy for me to even attempt to donate today, will have to try tomorrow.
I think what I needed was to get away from the TV set, and get out of the house.

Hoolahan - I am with you as far as the feelings we all have been feeling. Just wish I could really help by being on the ground there.

Hoolahan, I'm hearing you loud and clear... Your national news is my local news and I'm tired of it in the sense that I'm feeling saturated with it! I went to work yesterday - the agency where I work has field staff and home care clients, so I had to be sure all were ok... All day we were hearing stories of lost family members and exhausted EMT's (one went down to help and stepped on a baby's arm - minus the baby. Pray for her!). Then I went home and all that was on tv was more and more and more of the same. Forgive me for wanting a dose of Ricki Lake to get my mind off this! So I went for a llllooonnnggg bike ride. I think the exercise and fresh air did me some good.
I have mixed feelings about the footage - on one hand, "those who forget history are doomed to repeat it". We must not forget what happened this week and must take measures to ensure that it doesn't happen again. On the other hand, I'm feeling like we need to quit with the hysteria, clean up, bury our dead, hug our living (not necessarily in that order), deal with the sick people who did this, and move along in life. In my personal life I've been faced with trajedy more than once. You can only have so much wallowing in anger and self pity before it becomes a cancer that eats you alive. I'll not let that happen to me and mine! Anger and fear generate a tremendous amount of energy. Let's harness that energy for growth and rebuilding!
Nuff said... Blessings on all of you and your loved ones. May they all be safe!
PS Mom would love to see me move out of NYC. I will NOT!!! This is my adopted home and I love it, warts and all!

Well said as your post usually are. Your sentiments are shared by this fellow New Yorker.
We need to remeber that this may be just the beginning of this type of warfare. It takes a while for thinking to change from peace to war. But that change must take place. One death is too many.
Fortuneately a majority of people at the WTC got out. These two acts had the potential to have the same number of American deaths as all of the Vietnam war.
