hypodermic needles attached to bottom of gaspump handles...

  1. Received a lengthy, and VERY informative email from a friend yesterday in which was posted a warning to the populace..

apparently there are some quite SICK individuals who have been taping or otherwise affixing hypordermic needles to the bottoms of gaspump handles across the nation. These needles are purposely HIV infected and something like 12 out of the 17 cases so far have been now tested (the victims) as HIV positive themselves.
Apparently this began in Fla., and is being "copycatted" across the nation.

If I could figure out how to post the letter I received, I'd get it on here.. I'll keep trying.

In the meantime the Fla. State Police and others are warning us to be extremely careful when pumping gas... to make SURE to check any surface before handling....please pass this on to your friends and loved ones. I'll see if I can't get this thing posted soon.

It's a hoax. I recommend you add this website to your list of favorites, and do us all a favor and check out and strange email before you send it on:

Wow... sorry... had no idea. It was from a good friend of mine who fwd. it to me, and she was appalled. So how do we know then, that these things are hoaxes? (unless ppl like you make me aware of it?) OK.. can I delete this thread now, so I don't make myself the laughing stock of the BB? :imbar

Geeeeesh. I sent this letter to everyone I knew, too. What a rip!
    Sorry guys, intentions were good.

LOL...the first thing I did when I read this was go right to snopes.com; unfortunately, sunny beat me to the punch.

Whenever I see e-mails like this ("somebody sent me an e-mail that said...") followed by an incredible story, the red flags immediately go up.

If you want to delete your thread, go into edit and just erase it. You can't completely delete it, only mods can do that. You can just type in something like, "edited...story found to be untrue" or whatever you want.

Don't feel bad; there wouldn't be websites devoted to this type of stuff if there weren't lots of people thinking the info. was true.
Once you've seen a couple, you get a feel for them.

Besides, how else are other people gonna learn?

I gave you the entire hoaxbusters website because not only is it fascinating reading, but you'll be one up on the next would-be hoaxster that comes your email-way.

I was going to delete the thread for you but then thought that it is useful to others for the hoaxbusters and snopes links.
Don't feel foolish. We have all fallen for a story before.

I STILL get those dang e-mails. That and, 'my best friend's co-worker's sister-in-laws 2nd cousin once removed daughter's best friend of the man who sent this is dying of leukemia so let's forward this on and they'll give us $1.00 for each forward.'

Note: if someone tells you to search for a certain file on your hard drive and then delete it b/c it's a virus....DON'T. I'm entirely WAY too sick of this one too.

My "baby" brother taught me this lesson! He got so mad at me for forwarding stuff to him he threatened me with bodily harm (not really) if I kept it up! Pointed me to snopes and urbanlegends and told me to "research" things BEFORE I email

I have learned to reply with the links now when I get those emails...their frequency has declined considerably!!

I used to just delete them, but now I send a scathing email pointing out the errors of their ways and a direct link to snopes.
