How Sweet it Is...

  1. According to New Scientist this week there has been heated debate in America - not over the war but over sugar.

The World Health Organisation has dropped the recommended level of sugar to 10% of caloric intake. This apparently has outraged the American sugar industry.--- They are not only trying to suppress the report but they are lobbying congress to sut the funding to WHO....

Does this remind anyone of the cigarette story????

    tsk,tsk,tsk....

will have to say, however, that foods here ARE unnecessarily high in sugar content (for MY taste, anyway). Very noticable to me... in foods that really don't even need it. And the cakes , pastries, cookies, etc. are definately sweeter than I can handle.. not to mention frostings ! Taste like straight sugar ! Makes my teeth hurt thinking about it. To me, it just takes away from the taste of the other ingredients.. all I taste is the sugar!

uh... actually re: the mayo... I know this.... it stabalizes the egg yolks enough so that the mayo emulsion (egg yolk plus vinegar, and a whole heck of alot of oil usually...) will stay emulsified even though its in the jar...and, stay ok even out of refrigeration....
but, if you want to avoid that.... make your own stuff....you'll know exactly whats in it...
oh... and frosting, a traditional buttercream recipe (like what you put on cakes) is Powdered sugar and butter.... nothing else...
    its what gives it body...
and crunchy type frosting (like whats on pop tarts) is powdered sugar, and sterilized egg whites (merangue powder) w/ a little water.... maybe some food color... yum... YUK...
so..... all I have to say to conclude.... MAKE YOUR OWN!
    Grossedly yours.

absolutely, furball!! Who puts sugar in their spaghetti sauce anyway?? Why?? I make my own, it's delicious, no sugar..very italiano' tasting! yummmmmm..

That's where I find the excess sugar..in all the canned foods for kids..spaghetti, ravoli, etc.

    Also, in juices..
we cut ours with h20..so, I guess we get two gallons for the price of one
