How is your house decorated? Share!

  1. Ok, I confess, I'm a decorating junkie. I think I was an interior designer in my other life. After watching a bunch of stuff on Discovery channel, TLC, etc... I even bought a program for my computer that allows you to change wall colors/floor styles/etc. to 'preview' how a room would look before you decorate.
So, I'm curious to know what style your home is in. What you love about it, what you don't, what colors your walls are, what art you have, etc., etc., etc.
I am *extremely* casual, low-maintenance, but artsy.
    Come on, share!
I can just see kewlnurse's response... decorated with beer kegs, maybe one of those portable refrigerators full of beer, and, oh, the fiery flames of hell.

I had to laugh when I read the topic.....

My house is very comfortable for young males and animals.

Now,the house I would like is something different...

I like antiques, oriental carpets, more of a traditional feel. Mayby in a few more tears I will have it!

Too funny. My house is always a work in progress. I've resigned myself to the fact that I'll never have a sofa or bedding so nice that I wouldn't want a couple of dogs (and their 8 muddy feet) to jump up on it.
Oh, well. My office is what really needs work. I've wanted it blue for as long as I've lived here, but I recently read that blue in an office causes eyestrain.
Any ideas if this can be true?

Living room- denim couch, barn wood coffee and end tables etc. A child potty chair ( blue with a duck head) from the 40's, guitar made of gray granite bedpan(barbed wire for strings),

Prints of cats framed in barn wood, a watercolor of barn in snow framed in barn wood. Some shelfs of the same with stuffed folk art cats in country red plaids. A framed poem entitled "Stray Cat". An old white enamel bucket with magazines in it. Stuff like that . Rustic , countryish.

My bedroom- old white metal frame, Shabby chic kinda stuff. Pale yellow walls, pink and whites in quilt and shams. Pink rose fabric accessories with green accents. Old armoire and dresser painted green.

Kitchen- Fiesta dishes, red coffee maker, bright blue microwave, blue checkered, valance on window.Old Shawnee pig cookie jars, pitchers S&P shakers that I collected before they got expensive- can't afford any more). Prints of pigs on walls. I have old kitchen things hanging on the wall. I use the metal part of old rusted gargen rakes and hang the utensils from the prongs.

Dining room- Illinois souviner plates and Abraham Lincoln stuff. Even a framed small poster from his campaign for pres. A shelf with old Abe books, Illinois cup and saucer,etc... Oh, but one wall is Native American and Coke. I got a charcoal picture of a little girl in Native American dress and the only color is a coke can she is drinking out of and it all just kinda went from there. There is a shelf with some Indian pottery and a Seminole doll made of cypress wood with costume on. and a lot of "Navajo Story Teller " figurines and a pewter plate with the story teller on it.

The bathrooms and the second bedroom are not like the rest of the house either.Everything is different.

This is probably more than you ever wanted to know.

I love my apartment! Love it even more since I cleaned house yesterday :chuckle.

It's finally starting to look like an adult lives here since I got rid of the hand-me-down furniture, and started getting new (tasteful) stuff. Here are a few of my favorite things (sing with me now):
    - Oak hardwood floors,
    - Huge denim colored sofa,
    - Brand new Dell computer
    - Wonderful solid pine bookcase that my Dad built. Contains my favorite books.
    - Torch lamp with mosaïc glass shade.
    - Solid pine coffee table and end table stained to a wonderful honey brown color.
    - Lots of pillows and throws. Maroon batik sarong covering sterio stand.
    - 4' cat condo
    - Many pots of cat grass.
    - Lots of mobiles, glass and chrystals hanging on the windows.
    - Collection of star Christmas ornaments hanging from everything.

I love glass and wood. I guess I have a reall hippy/ethnic thing going on. Have a lot of things that I have collected from my travels.
    This is my sanctuary!

No, its not more than I wanted to know... its exactly what I wanted to know. Thanks.
I feel like such a voyeur sometimes but I love to see inside other people's houses. It gives me new ideas for what to do with mine and greater insight into their lives and personalities. Sometimes I think I might like home health nursing because of this little personality quirk of mine, but another personality quirk I have is that I am deathly and childishly afraid of bugs and spiders and other creepy crawly things, so maybe that's not a good idea.

I love fiestaware! I'm mad jealous.
Everything in my home right now is sort of hodgepodge. I'm totally interested in your denim couch, though. Is it slipcovered in denim? Or the entire thing is made of denim? I've thought about getting denim slipcovers for my sofa/loveseat more than once. It would look great against the cafe au lait walls in my mud room, and definitely casual and animal/people/kid friendly.

    Thanks for sharing so much!

Which is exactly what your home should be, in my opinion. A place to be truly comfortable.
    It sounds fabulous.
Oh, I wish I had a digital camera so I could take some pictures of my house and share... maybe get some ideas from everyone.
Do you think your Pops would build me a bookcase? I have a bunch of heavy nursing books thrown everywhere.

I wish I were a carpenter. Oh, well. Those assemble yourself jobs from Walmart never seem to last very long, and they're not extremely attractive.
Guess its back to the drawing board on that one.

The whole thing is denim- bought it that way. I have 3 cats and a dog ,lots of kid friends and wanted soft, comfortable and easy to clean. To change the look around I just change out accent pillows and throws. I didn't put drapes up. The windows are skinny and almost to the floor so there are big fluffy animal beds under each window and over the top I put wood shelf /valance to put things.

We recently moved from a 1700 sq ft. house to a 2800 sq ft. house, so needless to say we were a tad short on furniture to filll it up! I have recently discovered leather chairs and sofas- AND I love them!! I was always afraid that with kids & pets that it wasn't practical - this stuff is great. If you spill, just wipe it up!

My taste is very traditional and my husband loves that European - Danish look, so we have a little of both. We have a lot of hardwood floors in our home so it looks pretty good. I love art, but can't afford it right now - so someday I hope to have some really nice paintings.
