How did you tell your family?

  1. I was just thinking about a special way to tell my family that we are expecting. I was wondering what you guys did to make it memorable!

Well, we waited until we had our first ultrasound picture. Then we showed it to our parents and told them to look at their grandchild's first photo. Not to original but it was funny to see the look on their faces.

    Congratulations to you.

I have no special advice. My family was not very involved and could not have cared less. (long story)

However, the joy of having my first baby was something beyond measure.

I wish you a happy and healthy 9 months and beyond!

    Congratulations to you.

I put a pair of baby booties in the microwave for my DH to find. For our parents we bought a grandparent's memory book each which we wrapped up & gave to them.

We had the unique pleasure of having the 1st grandchild (& great grandchild for that matter) in the family!

I wish you all the very best! Come back & post what you did in the end!!

Funny you should post this... I had to tell my dad last night that I was expecting again. Now mind you after 5 other children the shock value of "Im gonna have a baby" should have worn off. But he still thinks I am 5 years old and we waited as long as we could before telling him. Everyone thought he would have a MI. I dont really think is the fact that I am expecting that gets to him as much as what I had to do to get that way But we sat him down away from all sharp and objects made of glass and told him, then I ducked behind the counter. He took it ok, but said he would be having a little talk with my

I was at my mom's house and she had cooked my favorite dish - potato pancakes with sour cream. I was starving and ate this huge plateful with gusto. Then promptly ran to the bathroom and vomited the entire thing up.

After that there was no need to wonder how to tell her. She knew. That was surely memorable, but not something I'd recommend.

Congrats to you! Do tell us how you decide to tell them.

I don't have any children, but my sister found one of those box sets where there are several different sizes in the gift set. In one box, she put note telling her mother-in-law how much she loved her, in the next she put a sweet quote about family and other stuff like that. In the smallest, she put a baby charm for her charm bracelet.

I still remember her face when she opened that last box -- it was so awesome!

My plan (if that ever happens) would be to keep it quiet until i couldn't fit in my jeans anymore (it'll be high risk). By then, my way of telling the family would be to pass around 'baby's first picture'.

My Mom siad she wanted a grandchild for Christmas early one December. I already knew I was pregnant, but hadn't told anyone yet. So, I just waited it out and wrapped a cute little doll up w/ a note attached to the chest.. "See ya in August Grandma". It's been 11 years and she's still got the doll from that Christmas.

These are some great ideas! Thanks for responding. I am still not sure yet, but I will let you know when I tell them. It'll be better than my first child, "Um, Mom, don't be mad..." LOL!
