Sandra, the Steelers are the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania professional football team. They are called Steelers because in the middle of the last century, for about 4 decades, Pittsburgh was a major steel producing city.
Now , all those jobs have gone to foreign countries with lower wages. Seems the steel mill workers went on strike so many times , along with the automobile workers, striking for higher wages, until they priced themselves out of jobs.
    They had great unions.
I remember reading a report that said, how can a typical family afford to buy a new car when the family wage earner is making $4 an hour and the auto/steel worker is making $20 an hour.?

Now, they hoot and holler about a football team, whose players make millions, and their steel mills look like old bombed out factories.

    Life is weird.
    Go Steelers.

Thank you for the explanation - both the sport and the history of the name - liked the history side gives me the knowledge about how things evolve

Actually about 10 minutes ago our sport wrap up for the night just showed some footage of the game - might add after the cricket - thats our priority here at the moment
    Cheers Tookie
